The role focuses on analyzing clinical workflows, gathering requirements, improving healthcare processes, and supporting implementation of healthcare applications such as EMR/EHR systems.
Clinical Business Analysts commonly work with hospitals, healthcare providers, payers, life sciences companies, and healthcare IT vendors.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and document business and clinical requirements from healthcare stakeholders
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, clinical staff, and IT teams to understand workflow challenges
- Analyze existing clinical and operational processes and recommend improvements
- Prepare Business Requirement Documents (BRD), Functional Requirement Documents (FRD), user stories, and process flows
- Support implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of EHR/EMR systems and clinical applications
- Coordinate with development and QA teams to ensure requirements are correctly implemented
- Conduct gap analysis and impact analysis for system changes and upgrades
- Facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate system functionality against business needs
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and clinical documentation standards
- Support healthcare interoperability initiatives using HL7, FHIR, and related standards
- Assist in data mapping, reporting, and clinical data validation activities
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders during project planning and execution
- Identify risks, issues, and dependencies affecting clinical system implementations
- Provide end-user training, support, and documentation for healthcare applications
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
- Monitor system performance and recommend process optimization opportunities
- Act as liaison between business users, vendors, and technical teams to ensure successful project delivery
