- The Storage and Backup Engineer will serve as a technical escalation point for storage, backup, and infrastructure operations.
- This role involves planning, implementation, troubleshooting, and performance tuning across multiple enterprise platforms, including Dell, NetApp, Veritas, Rubrik, and Commvault.
- The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure reliability, scalability, and compliance of the storage and backup infrastructure.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for escalations and infrastructure planning.
- Engage with application, database, virtualization, and cloud teams to gather requirements and deliver infrastructure solutions.
- Participate in customer meetings to understand pain points and translate them into technical improvements.
- Provide proactive communication on issue status, root cause analysis, and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with vendors (Dell, NetApp, Veritas, Rubrik, Commvault) for projects and escalated support.
- Act as an escalation point for complex storage and backup incidents.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and root cause analysis.
- Create and maintain documentation including architecture diagrams, SOPs, and configuration guides.
- Utilize monitoring tools such as NetBackup OpsCenter, Rubrik Reports, CloudIQ, and OnCommand.
- Follow ITIL processes for incident, change, and problem management.
- Manage and prioritize multiple high-impact issues simultaneously while ensuring clear communication.
- Configure, provision, and manage storage across Dell PowerStore, Powermax, and NetApp FAS/AFF/FSXn platforms.
- Implement and manage LUNs, volumes, exports, and replication (SnapMirror, SnapVault).
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and RCA for storage issues (I/O latency, disk failure, zoning errors).
- Manage Brocade SAN switches, including zoning, port troubleshooting, ISL setup, and firmware upgrades.
- Plan and execute storage migrations, firmware upgrades, and disaster recovery rehearsals.
- Manage NetApp features like FlexVol, FlexGroup, SnapMirror, and CIFS/NFS share configurations.
- Administer Commvault and Veritas NetBackup (Master/Media server, policies, catalog management, MSDP, AIR).
- Configure and manage Rubrik CDM (SLA Domains, cloud archival, indexing, replication for DR).
- Troubleshoot failed backups/restores and ensure RTO/RPO compliance and DR testing.
- Automate and optimize backup tasks using PowerShell or Python scripting.
- Integrate backup systems with virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware and AWS.
- Perform regular backup health checks and generate success/failure reports.
- 8 years of experience in NetBackup with Dell Data Domain administration (policy tuning, restores, cloud storage configuration).
- 2 years of experience in Rubrik CDM (VM/NAS backups, SLA domains, replication, and archival).
- Hands-on experience with Commvault Backup Systems.
- 5 years of experience with Dell EMC PowerStore and Powermax.
- 4 years of experience with NetApp ONTAP, SnapMirror, and CIFS/NFS architecture.
- Strong knowledge of Brocade SAN fabric, zoning, and CLI troubleshooting.
