The AWS Architect position at the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is a critical role responsible for overseeing and maintaining the AWS Organization, designing and implementing cloud solutions, troubleshooting complex issues, and mentoring staff to build internal cloud expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the existing AWS Organization
- Design, review, and implement AWS solutions for ITS and agencies
- Serve as a senior point of contact for complex AWS-related issues
- Work with AWS and third-party vendors to integrate products into the AWS ecosystem
- Provide mentorship, training, and knowledge transfer to staff
- Ensure industry best practices and compliance requirements are met
Required Skills/Experience:
- Deep knowledge of key AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Experience leading cloud migrations or implementations in a complex multi-account environment
- Strong network troubleshooting abilities for AWS and on-premises environments
- Familiarity with AWS Landing Zone implementations and infrastructure as code
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and security best practices
- Experience with DevOps principles, containerization, and serverless architectures
- Excellent communication skills and mentorship experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and organizational abilities
- Ability to lead architectural reviews and design complex solutions
- AWS Professional-level certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional)
- Experience in a government or highly regulated environment
- Knowledge of ITIL, project management methodologies, and enterprise IT governance
- Familiarity with other public cloud providers and scripting/programming languages
