Position Summary
The Aerospace Quality Engineer / CMM Programmer is responsible for ensuring product quality and compliance with aerospace standards through inspection planning, CMM programming, and first article validation. This role plays a critical part in supporting production, engineering, and customer requirements by applying strong knowledge of GD&T, AS9102, and precision measurement techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, program, and optimize CMM inspection routines using Camio software
- Interpret engineering drawings, models, and specifications with a strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Perform and oversee First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements
- Generate, review, and maintain FAI packages, including ballooned drawings and inspection reports
- Create and maintain detailed inspection plans and quality documentation
- Analyze inspection data and provide feedback to engineering and manufacturing teams
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconforming products
- Collaborate with manufacturing and design teams to improve product quality and manufacturability
- Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards (AS9100, NADCAP where applicable)
- Maintain calibration awareness and proper use of inspection equipment
- Assist with internal and external audits as required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or equivalent experience
- 3 years of experience in aerospace quality or inspection role
- Hands-on experience programming CMMs using Camio
- Strong proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Solid understanding of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements
- Experience with inspection tools (CMM, height gages, calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret complex aerospace drawings and CAD models
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and quality documentation systems
- Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems
- Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, CATIA)
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is a plus
