Job Summary:
Iridium is an award-winning satellite communications company that provides global connectivity through its unique network. They are seeking a motivated Software Development Engineer I to focus on AI, performing software development, testing, and analysis while contributing to innovative AI-powered solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Apply software engineering best practices and processes to the development of software for different projects and services
• Work closely with Vendors to incorporate their products and software into Iridium service solutions
• Assist in the implementation, build, and verification activities and help troubleshoot issues to resolution
• Perform analysis activities to ensure designs meet technical performance targets
• Conduct functional & performance analysis studies, interface definition, and detailed trade studies
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure software has been tested thoroughly
• Collaborate with team members to ensure high quality products are ready to be deployed into production according to the assigned schedule
• Utilize critical thinking skills to support the team in applying new ideas and approaches, such as designing and developing enhancements to existing and new systems
• Assist in the planning, design, development and execution of AI-driven proof of concepts (POCs) to test and validate new ideas.
• Help evaluate and select appropriate AI tools, techniques, and technologies for various business use cases
• Participate in the development and testing of AI-driven prototypes and solutions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, engineers, and product managers, to gather requirements and support AI project initiatives, understand business requirements and translate them into practical AI applications
• Help evaluate and reengineer business processes related to the AI use cases
• Evaluate user stories and user experience aspects around processes and AI augmentation.
• Contribute to the documentation and knowledge sharing around AI initiatives within the organization
• Participate in brainstorming sessions to identify potential areas where AI can add value to company operations and customer experiences.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
• 0-2 years of related software engineering experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, ground networks, electronic products development/manufacturing, or satellites
• Proficiency in coding and assisting with coding complex software applications with multiple subsystems and interfaces
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively
• Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you
• The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed
• Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you
• A motivation to achieve outcomes and results
• Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors
• An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others
• Be able to work a hybrid schedule, including at least 3 days per week in office
• Be able to travel up to 15%
• US Citizenship required
Preferred:
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell scripting
• Working knowledge of networking protocols, routers, switches, etc.
• Familiarity with Tool Suite such as Gitlab, Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence
• A good understanding of tools and software applications that support system engineering best practices
