Production Scheduler/Planner
Position Summary
The Production Scheduler/Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating production schedules that maximize efficiency while meeting customer delivery requirements. This position works closely with sales, purchasing, production, engineering, shipping, and quality to ensure materials, labor, and equipment are available to meet production goals. The Scheduler/Planner monitors capacity, inventory, and customer demand to optimize workflow and minimize delays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity.
- Review customer demand and prioritize production to meet delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure raw materials and components are available for scheduled production.
- Monitor work orders and production progress, adjusting schedules as needed to address equipment downtime, material shortages, staffing, or customer changes.
- Release manufacturing work orders and maintain accurate production records within the ERP/MRP system.
- Communicate production schedules and schedule changes to supervisors and department managers.
- Analyze production capacity, machine availability, and labor requirements to maximize throughput.
- Track on-time delivery performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service regarding order status, lead times, and customer priorities.
- Work with Engineering and Quality during new product launches or engineering changes to ensure production readiness.
- Participate in production meetings to review schedules, constraints, and performance.
- Maintain accurate inventory and production planning data.
- Prepare production reports, capacity reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce lead times.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two to five years of production scheduling, planning, or manufacturing operations experience preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and production flow.

- Ability to interpret production data and generate reports.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with regular time spent on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as business needs require.
