Senior Electrical Engineer, P.E. — MEP / Building Systems

JLRD Engineering | West Palm Beach, Florida | Full-Time

Build Something Bigger Than Your Next Project

If you're an experienced Electrical Engineer who wants greater project ownership, direct access to leadership, and the opportunity to make a visible impact within a hyper-growth engineering firm, JLRD Engineering may be worth a conversation.

JLRD is an established, privately owned MEP and Fire Protection consulting engineering firm headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida. We deliver sophisticated building-systems engineering across healthcare, education, federal/government, aviation, commercial, and other technically demanding environments.

We're growing and looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer, P.E. who can bring strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and leadership to our electrical team.

This isn't simply another production engineering position. You'll have the opportunity to lead projects, influence design decisions, mentor developing engineers, and work directly with clients and JLRD leadership.

Why JLRD?

We believe experienced engineers should have the opportunity to do meaningful work while being recognized for the expertise they bring to the organization.

JLRD offers:

  • Competitive compensation aligned w/experience, technical expertise, and level of responsibility
  • 100% employer-paid employee health insurance premium
  • 3% Safe Harbor non-elective 401(k) employer contribution
  • Half-day Fridays year-round
  • Annual bonus opportunity
  • Professional development and credential support
  • Direct interaction with firm leadership and clients
  • Diverse, technically challenging projects
  • An environment where experienced engineers can have a meaningful impact

What You'll Do

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll take an active role in the design and delivery of electrical building systems from concept through construction.

You'll lead and contribute to power distribution, lighting, emergency/standby power, and related electrical systems, while coordinating with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and other project disciplines.

You'll also have opportunities to:

  • Lead electrical design efforts and manage project scope
  • Develop and review calculations, specifications, and construction documents
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, and related electrical studies
  • Review designs for code compliance and technical quality
  • Participate in field investigations and construction administration
  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs
  • Coordinate directly with clients, architects, and project teams
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers
  • Contribute to JLRD's continued technical and organizational growth

What We're Looking For

We're more interested in demonstrated capability than checking every box.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in MEP/building systems
  • Strong understanding of commercial and institutional electrical systems
  • Experience with power distribution and lighting design
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and building codes
  • Experience producing and reviewing construction documents
  • Strong communication and project coordination skills

Experience with Revit and electrical analysis/design software is highly valued.

Experience That Would Be a Plus

You don't need to have all of these to be considered.

Experience with healthcare, AHCA, education, federal/government, aviation, mission-critical facilities, SKM/EasyPower/ETAP, emergency power, fire alarm, low-voltage systems, or complex renovation projects would be especially valuable.

Most importantly, we're looking for an engineer who can combine technical expertise, accountability, leadership, and good judgment.

Why West Palm Beach?

For candidates considering relocation, West Palm Beach offers an exceptional combination of career opportunity and quality of life.

Enjoy year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, boating, saltwater fishing, golf, outdoor recreation, and a thriving arts and cultural scene, including museums, performing arts, live music, dining, and entertainment.

There's also an important financial advantage: Florida has no individual state income tax. Depending on where you're relocating from and your income, that can mean thousands of dollars in annual savings that stay in your pocket rather than going toward state income taxes.

For an experienced professional considering a move, South Florida offers the opportunity to advance your career while enjoying a lifestyle that's difficult to match.

Interested, But Not Actively Looking?

That's okay.

Some of the best career conversations begin before someone has decided to make a move. If your background aligns with the position and you're curious about JLRD, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
