Fire Engineer Job Scope: Ensures the reliability and compliance of all fire detection, suppression, and life safety systems protecting data centre infrastructure and personnel. Maintains fire alarm control panels, addressable detection systems, smoke detectors, heat detectors, and manual call points throughout the facility. Manages specialized gas suppression systems (FM-200, Novec 1230, Inergen) including agent storage cylinders, discharge nozzles, and release mechanisms. Conducts regular testing and inspection of fire extinguishers, fire hoses, hydrant systems, and emergency lighting. Performs functional tests on fire dampers, smoke barriers, and compartmentation systems. Monitors fire system status through integration with BMS, investigating and resolving system faults and false alarms. Coordinates quarterly and annual testing with third-party certification bodies and fire authorities. Maintains detailed records of all inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and system modifications. Develops and updates fire emergency response procedures and evacuation plans. Conducts regular fire drills and provides fire safety training to facility staff. Investigates fire alarm activations, determining causes and implementing preventive measures. Ensures compliance with NFPA standards, local fire codes, and insurance requirements. Coordinates with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) for inspections and permits. Participates in design reviews for fire system modifications or new installations. Maintains relationships with fire suppression system vendors and service providers. Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field Minimum 5-7 years of experience in fire protection systems, preferably in data centres or critical facilities Professional certifications such as CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist) or equivalent Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, particularly NFPA 72, 75, and 2001 Understanding of gaseous suppression systems and clean agent technologies Experience with fire alarm panel programming and troubleshooting Knowledge of fire risk assessment and hazard analysis methodologies Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills Ability to communicate effectively with regulatory authorities and stakeholders Location: On-site –Johor Bahru, Malaysia At JLL, we harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to efficiently accelerate meaningful connections between candidates and opportunities.
