What this job involves:

Join JLL as a Calibration and Instrumentation Technician, where you'll oversee the daily operation of campus systems, utilities, and process equipment while ensuring critical building automation systems operate within design parameters in the most energy efficient manner. This highly technical position is essential to JLL's commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and optimized facility operations for our pharmaceutical and life sciences clients by managing Building Automation Systems (BAS), troubleshooting advanced control systems, and performing calibrations and preventive maintenance on instrumentation and process equipment. You'll utilize the site BMS to monitor and control systems, manage outside BMS contract service providers, and take appropriate actions to protect equipment and personnel when systems are not functioning properly, directly impacting product quality, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance in cGMP manufacturing environments. What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Troubleshoot building and process automation from basic to advanced control including digital communications used in automation and control systems, field and test instruments, and install, troubleshoot, and repair campus systems, utility, and process equipment & instrumentation while fine-tuning loops to achieve better environmental control and energy savings.
  • Work on Siemens Building Automation System by installing physical devices/instruments, connecting them to field panels, building points and graphics, trending points, managing alarms, performing field troubleshooting, and troubleshooting, repairing, and verifying operation of the SCADA remote monitoring and control system for campus systems, utility, and process equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, calibrations, and physical repair work by testing and calibrating electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and analytical instruments & equipment for conformance to established standards using engineering principles on systems including WFI, Clean Steam, HVAC, Compressed Gases, Waste Treatment, CIP, Autoclaves, Glassware Washers, vessels, Cold/Warm equipment & rooms, Control Systems, and Aseptic Filling systems.
  • Interact with other departments to schedule activities around the production schedules of cGMP Manufacturing and Process Development departments, schedule self-performed work assigned at beginning of month and due by end of month, assist team members during equipment startup to identify and correct problems during troubleshooting, and evaluate control system performance to make recommendations that optimize process efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Read and interpret prints, schematic drawings, manuals, and specification documents, mark up and create red line drawings, provide complete and accurate documentation, maintain trained and certified status as required in cGMP, GLP, HR, and industry procedures, support internal, Client, and Regulatory Agency audits as required, and contribute to the creation and updating of maintenance and calibration procedures to match best practices and lessons learned.
  • Identify and order spare or replacement parts for equipment utilizing inventory management system, work with shipping to send out equipment or standards for offsite vendor service and track status, recommend facility improvements to meet OSHA safety, ISPE, or FDA guidelines, review system operations reports to ensure systems function properly and operate energy efficiently without running redundant equipment when not required, and provide responsive customer support with emphasis on customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience working with electrical or instrumentation/controls systems demonstrating hands-on technical expertise in troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining process instrumentation, building automation systems, and control platforms in industrial, pharmaceutical, or commercial facility environments.
  • Knowledge of BMS platforms including but not limited to Siemens, DeltaV, Honeywell, and Allen Bradley with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot automation systems from basic to advanced control, manage digital communications, install and configure field devices, build points and graphics, and perform trending and alarm management.
  • Proficiency in basic computer application software such as MS Office, Outlook, and CMMS systems for documentation, work order management, reporting, and tracking of calibration activities, maintenance records, and equipment service histories to support regulatory compliance and data-driven facility operations.
  • Adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervision including ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as P&IDs, schematic drawings, loop diagrams, manuals, and specification documents, and create accurate red line drawings and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Valid driver's license with availability for 24-hour on-call responsibilities to respond to emergency situations, system malfunctions, or critical equipment failures that require immediate technical expertise to protect equipment, personnel, and manufacturing operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Controls, Automation, or related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience demonstrating advanced technical knowledge of control systems, instrumentation theory, and process automation in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Valid trade license or completion of an approved apprenticeship program in instrumentation, electrical systems, or industrial controls demonstrating formal technical training and regulatory compliance for specialized technical work.
  • Proficiency in programming Controls (BAS/BMS) systems with hands-on experience in control and simulation techniques and strategies, PID loop tuning, control optimization, and implementation of advanced control strategies to improve process efficiency, reliability, and energy performance.
  • Experience working in a customer service environment interacting with clients in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or cGMP manufacturing settings with ability to remain focused and independent with minimal supervision while demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively through oral and written reports.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, ability to handle and resolve customer/consumer complaints efficiently, demonstrates leadership by example, effectively manages competing priorities, possesses strong analytical skills, and makes well-informed decisions based on a wide range of data to support facility operations and manufacturing success.

Location: Onsite

Work Schedule: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weekend Shifts Available. Subject to 24-hour availability for emergency response.

Physical Job Requirements: Overhead work and working at heights required. Must be able to work in cleanroom manufacturing environments which include gowning and respirator requirements. Environmental conditions vary based on job being performed; work may take place in calibration lab and/or plant. Must be capable of working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Skilled and physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on ladders, carry tools, lift and carry heavy loads, and operate required equipment.
