The Assistant Chief Engineer, under direct supervision of the Chief Engineer and oversight by the Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Operations, and Account Director, supervises, leads, and supports the operation, inspection, and maintenance processes for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems in assigned facilities. This role requires demonstrating technical expertise in multiple craft areas (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) and being multi-skilled in all others to successfully repair, maintain, restore, and replace various building operational components independently and as a teacher supplying team support. You will play a critical role in ensuring optimal facility performance while mentoring team members and upholding JLL's commitment to operational excellence and client satisfaction. The size of the team can vary but is currently comprised of 2 HVAC technicians, 3 plumbers, 3 electricians, and 2 building maintenance workers. This is a Local 399 Union position.

What your day-to-day will look like:
- Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems under Chief Engineer supervision
- Supervise and manage engineering and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and coaching
- Coordinate with first-shift and third-shift teams to ensure smooth handoffs and clear communication
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems
- Diagnose, inspect, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment including compressors, chillers, and cooling towers
- Conduct facility rounds, report on conditions impacting operations, and enter work orders for resolution
- Provide hands-on training in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures
- Utilize CMMS work order system to manage timely completion of all maintenance assignments
- Lead safety policies and procedures; maintain strict attention to detail on job sites
- Adhere to all regulatory, healthcare, and hospital requirements supporting safe operation and patient care
- Foster collaboration between trades and shifts to deliver quality results to the Client
- Minimum of 2 years of applicable working experience in general building repair, maintenance, and engineering with a strong background in technical aspects of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, and overall system design and application
- Valid Stationary Engineers License in the City of Chicago, and any other licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction
- Universal CFC certification required
- Additional certifications (electrical, plumbing, OSHA, etc.)
- Ability to use a computer and smartphone with multiple email accounts
- Effective use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel), Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS – Corrigo a plus), and other internet-based software
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
