Lead Metrology Technician
JJA Technical Services is seeking an experienced Lead Metrology Technician to support pharmaceutical and biotechnology operations in regulated GMP environments. This role is ideal for a highly skilled Metrology professional who works independently, leads by example, and takes pride in supporting critical manufacturing and life sciences operations.
- The Lead Metrology Technician is responsible for the on-time execution of calibration activities to ensure proper measurement accuracy while adhering to applicable GxP regulations, FDA, USP, and ISPE guidelines and practices. Responsible for performing scheduled and unscheduled calibrations on process and laboratory equipment using prescribed standard operating procedures. The Lead is proficient in the calibration of temperature, pressure, weight, speed, gas-analyzing, conductivity, pH, and environmental monitoring instruments in a GxP environment. The Lead Metrology Technician is a self-starter who works unsupervised, leads and trains junior Metrology team members, and maintains high attention to detail. The Lead is seen as a Metrology subject matter expert and leader in the field.

Responsibilities
- Perform calibration and adjustment of instrumentation and equipment to specified tolerances using approved SOPs and manufacturer manuals
- Calibrate process, laboratory, utility, and environmental monitoring instrumentation in GMP environments
- Perform calibrations on equipment including RTDs, pressure gauges, conductivity and pH meters, differential pressure transmitters, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, bioreactors, mixers, autoclaves, and related systems
- Support utility systems including WFI skids, RO/DI systems, chill water systems, boilers, and associated instrumentation
- Utilize calibration standards including RTDs, dry blocks, oil baths, digital multimeters, Coriolis flow meters, standard solutions, and pneumatic/hydraulic pressure and vacuum calibrators
- Adjust and align instrumentation using equipment manuals and manufacturer procedures
- Perform instrumentation repairs and troubleshooting activities as required
- Maintain detailed calibration documentation in compliance with quality and GxP requirements
- Utilize and maintain secondary and working calibration standards
- Serve as a technical resource in resolving complex Metrology issues
- Assist in evaluating new equipment and determining calibration requirements
- Support equipment qualification activities as required
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to junior Metrology team members
- Interact effectively with customers, peers, and leadership to achieve operational goals
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to quality, safety, efficiency, and reliability
- Perform all work safely and in compliance with EHS requirements
Qualifications
- 6 years of Metrology experience, including 2 years in a GMP-regulated environment
- Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) preferred
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated manufacturing operations
- Strong troubleshooting, technical problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience working within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality documentation
