Director, Accounting and Tax

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Accounting and Tax is responsible for a portion of the day to day operations of the finance department including timely tax reporting for the Federation, the Supporting Foundations and Trusts, supervision of staff for tax filings and accounting entries, supervision of accounting staff for Federation’s finance operations, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and support in the department, and additional assignments as determined by the CFO.

This position is full-time and reports to the CFO.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Oversee aspects of day-to-day financial reporting and accounting functions of the bookkeeping/accounting staff including review and approval/posting of journal entries.
2. Preparation and/or review of components of interim and annual financial reporting.
3. Supervise and direct a staff of 2-3 accountants/bookkeepers.
4. Complete the Federation’s Form 990 and all related tax filings.
5. Oversee and coordinate all other tax-related filings and activities, including Trusts and Supporting Foundations returns and estimates.
6. Review monthly bank reconciliations.
7. Provide guidance and support for 1099 preparation.
8. Perform other tasks as requested by the CFO.

8. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn other relevant software systems and databases as needed.
9. Proficiency or familiarity with ProSystem Tax a plus.
10. Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Education, Training and/or Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
2. 7 years of related professional experience, including 3 years in a position with supervisory responsibilities.
3. Experience using various financial software/accounting systems; familiarity with Oracle NetSuite preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
