AGENCY OVERVIEW:
Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. The Spiritual Care program provides comprehensive services guided by values and principles central to the Jewish tradition. We attend to the needs of the mind, body, and spirit, including counseling for grief and bereavement, palliative and end-of-life care, support for those experiencing miscarriage or baby loss, as well as chaplaincy and rabbinic services.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Director serves Stanford Medicine as director of the Jewish Chaplaincy Services and provides spiritual care services to the JFCS staff, clients, and the larger Peninsula community as a member of the Spiritual Care Department at JFCS. The Director understands and assists in meeting budget and services goals, understands the mission and objectives of Jewish Family and Children’s Services and works within the limitations of the Agency’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with agency standards.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000 (depending on experience)
  • Employment Type: full-time, exempt position with benefits

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide bedside visits and support to Jewish patients and families, including beside support during Jewish holidays. Coordinate special patient needs with hospital services
  • Provide Jewish spiritual care and services for clients and the Peninsula Jewish community in various locations (e.g., residential care communities, long-term care facilities, client homes)
  • Oversee public observances for Jewish holidays and conduct life cycle events (e.g., circumcision, baby naming, wedding, memorial services)
  • Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of Jewish spiritual care volunteers; involve volunteers in holiday programming
  • Collaborate with staff from Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health Spiritual Care Services, Stanford Medicine Jewish Community Group, Stanford University Jewish Alumni Group, and Stanford Hillel
  • Partner with JFCS rabbinic staff to address educational and support needs related to Jewish lifecycles, holidays, and Jewish literacy for staff and community
  • Provide life cycle event services for JFCS clients, including funeral services and other rituals
  • Conduct Bikkur Cholim Training for participants at Jewish day schools, JFCS Youth First Program, synagogues, and others


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ordained Rabbi and Board Certified or Board-Eligible Jewish Chaplain with NAJC (Neshama: Association for Jewish Chaplains)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a hospital chaplain or relevant experience in Jewish Community
  • Graduate of an accredited college or university in a field related to the program
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey difficult conversations professionally in a polite and friendly manner
  • Strong commitment to providing responsive services to the community and the ability to establish excellent rapport with clients, staff, and community members
  • Ability to establish cooperative and productive relationships with involved professionals, colleagues, donors, volunteers, and members of the general and Jewish communities
  • Experience with healthcare documentation standards and procedures is preferred. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred
