CULTURAL ARTS COORDINATOR

 

Job Title:                              Cultural Arts Coordinator

Job Status:                          Part-time (approximately 20-25 hours/week)

Classification:                      Non-exempt/hourly

Reports to:                          Director of Arts & Education 

Date:                                     January 2026

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Arts & Education department at the JCC of Indianapolis engages our diverse JCC membership and the community with top programs of arts, education, and dialogue. The Cultural Arts Coordinator serves as an assistant to the Director of Arts & Education, provides administrative support, and helps in organizing, promoting, and implementing cultural arts programs that include the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, JCC Gallery Exhibitions, special events, theater productions, and adult enrichment classes.  This position meets new people and encourages them into audience members and partners to help expand the Cultural Arts community at the JCC.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With Director of Arts & Education, help organize, develop, implement, promote, and assess special programs, classes, art gallery exhibits, book sales, and theater productions
  • Manage administrative functions including:
    1. Track program attendance and specific deliverables, including revenue tracking
    2. Identify and develop new relationships with prospective community partners through social media and creative recruitment efforts
    3. Create and maintain event pages and community calendars for event promotion.
    4. Assist with managing rehearsal and performance schedules and other theater production tasks.

 

  • With Director of Arts & Education, help organize, develop, promote, and implement all phases of the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts including:
  • Assist in choosing authors, films, artists, performers, and programs to offer
  • Expand promotional efforts around the city of Indianapolis
  • Support volunteers in presenting outstanding Festival
  • Assist in planning and organizing book sales, including selecting, ordering, displaying, inventorying, and returning unsold books

 

  • Other Responsibilities include:
  • Staff evening and weekend events
  • Work with JCC marketing department to publicize Arts & Education programs, activities, and events via website, calendars and marketing materials distribution
  • Collaborate with JCC members, community members and other local arts organizations including Jewish agencies to implement Arts & Education arts and special events
  • Assist with creating email and social media communications, managing our platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and updating our website.
  • Help manage volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent related work experience
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a team environment
  • Computer and internet experience with a strong proficiency with MS Office, Zoom, & social media such as Facebook and Instagram
  • Experience with events management and staffing events
  • Experience working with AV equipment
  • Theater production and art gallery management experience is a plus

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to be creative and think outside the box
  • Strong organizational and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Square and its usage for event purchases and registration
  • Knowledge of social media and graphic design is a plus

 

Interpersonal, Customer Service & Communication Skills

  • Requires ability to effectively communicate JCC mission to staff, members. vendors and volunteers
  • Requires high-level skills in customer service/member care

Work Environment

 

The work environment characteristics are representative of a busy, active community center as well as an office setting. The work environment is usually fast-paced with frequent stimulation and mobility. This job requires high energy and interaction with JCC members, staff and members of the community. Expectations are that the individual will present a professional appearance, particularly when interacting with members,  potential members and the public. Physical demands are primarily limited to walking throughout the facility and grounds, hanging art gallery exhibits (reaching, bending, squatting, lifting, using a ladder) and operating general office equipment. Work schedule is primarily Monday – Friday; however, evenings and weekends will be required with advance notice depending upon program schedule and events.
