Position Summary
The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for designing and implementing individualized fitness and rehabilitation programs to help members improve cardiovascular function, strength, mobility, and overall health. This role works with both healthy individuals and those with chronic conditions or injuries, providing education, motivation, and ongoing support in a safe and professional environment. The Exercise Physiologist contributes to the success of the Fitness Center by embodying the mission, vision, and values of the JCC.
Key Responsibilities
Assess member health status, medical history, and fitness levels through assessments, screenings, interviews, and testing
- Develop and implement individualized exercise programs focused on strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility, and cardiovascular health
- Modify programs based on progress, goals, and any medical considerations
- Educate members on proper exercise techniques, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle habits
- Monitor sessions to ensure safety and effectiveness
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and progress notes
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals when appropriate
- Provide a clean, safe, and welcoming fitness environment
- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Follow all JCC policies, procedures, and internal service standards
- Maintain required certifications and attend trainings/meetings
- Adjust scheduling to meet member needs, including evenings and weekends
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field (required)
Exercise Physiologist or similar certification (preferred)
Experience working with individuals with chronic conditions (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer) preferred
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (required)
NCCA Accredited Personal training certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of exercise physiology, anatomy, and biomechanics
- Ability to interpret health data and develop safe, effective exercise plans
- Familiarity with fitness equipment and clinical assessment tools
- Excellent communication, coaching, and motivational skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Basic computer proficiency (email, documentation systems)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting clients with movement/exercises
- Ability to spot clients and respond quickly in physically demanding situations
