Thermofluid Systems Test Engineer (Electrical)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Thermofluid Systems Test Engineer (Electrical) with strong hands-on expertise in validation testing, automation, controls, instrumentation, data acquisition, and electrical systems. This is an execution-focused role with clear ownership from early product development through qualification and production release.

Our products enable more sustainable data center infrastructure through advanced liquid cooling technologies. In this role, you will design, build, instrument, and operate test systems used to evaluate and validate product performance, controls functionality, and overall system behavior. While thermofluid experience is important, the primary focus of this position is developing automated test equipment, integrating sensors and controls, and generating high-quality data that drives engineering decisions.

You will own test methods, fixtures, controls integration, and data acquisition systems while working closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers to validate requirements and accelerate product development.

Success in this role requires strong experimental judgment, a solid understanding of electrical and control systems, comfort working independently in a laboratory environment, and the ability to execute complex testing with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

  • Own hands-on testing and validation of Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and related subsystems, including electrical systems, controls, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Design, build, instrument, and operate automated test systems used to evaluate controls functionality, electrical performance, reliability, thermofluid behavior, and overall system performance.
  • Develop and maintain PLC-based controls, electrical architectures, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and automation required for development, qualification, and production testing.
  • Execute test plans, analyze results, and provide clear, data-driven feedback to mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering teams.
  • Support product development by translating test data into actionable design improvements, risk assessments, and validation evidence.
  • Improve laboratory capabilities by identifying opportunities to enhance automation, controls, instrumentation, electrical infrastructure, and test coverage.
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause investigations across development, qualification, production, and field issues involving electrical, controls, and thermofluid systems.
  • Support the specification, integration, and validation of sensors, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, communication networks, and other control system components used in CDU products and test equipment.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of hands-on experience developing, testing, and qualifying complex electromechanical systems in data center cooling, industrial automation, automotive, medical, or related industries. Experience with CDUs, liquid cooling, or thermofluid systems is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical systems, controls integration, instrumentation, automation, and system-level validation testing.
  • Proven ability to design, build, instrument, and commission custom test equipment, including sensors, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, power distribution, safety interlocks, and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience leading performance and qualification testing, including functional, reliability, thermal, environmental, fault-mode, and system-level validation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control panel design, wiring practices, instrumentation, and troubleshooting of low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with PLC-based controls, test automation, communication protocols, and control logic development for automated test sequences and safe system operation.
  • Strong data acquisition and analysis skills, including sensor selection, calibration, data logging, signal conditioning, and post-processing of test data.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, controls, and system-level issues through hands-on testing and structured root cause analysis.
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate test plans, results, failures, and engineering recommendations to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, developing, and validating electrical systems, control architectures, and automation solutions for complex electromechanical products.
  • Hands-on experience designing electrical schematics, control panels, PCB assemblies, wiring harnesses, and instrumentation systems used in product development and test environments.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, power supplies, sensors, data acquisition hardware, and communication networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement automated test systems, including controls logic, electrical interfaces, instrumentation, and data collection software.
  • Experience executing qualification, reliability, environmental, fault-injection, and limits testing on electrical, controls, and electromechanical systems.
  • Strong background in sensor selection, signal conditioning, analog and digital I/O, data acquisition, and measurement system design.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic circuits, control systems, and system-level electrical issues using structured root cause analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with thermofluid systems, fluid instrumentation, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and liquid cooling technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with safety circuits, interlocks, power distribution, EMC/EMI considerations, and electrical design for industrial or laboratory equipment is a plus.
