Jervey Eye Group, the Upstate's premier Ophthalmology practice, is looking for a great candidate to join our Retina team as an Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, COA. The COA works closely with the physicians, and other technicians to provide high-quality care to each patient of the practice. Duties include performing preliminary testing, obtaining chief complaint and medical history, overseeing patient flow, prepping patients for procedures, and scribing for physicians. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Responsibilities
- Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care.
- Knowledge of Retina Intravitreal medications.
- Ability to properly triage retina patients.
- Performs technical workups, patient interviews and special testing.
- Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.
- Maintains and cleans all equipment being used, and reports to supervisor if not in working condition.
- Perform tests including, but not limited to: A or B scans, OCTs, IOL Master and Fluorescein Angiograph (FA).
- Returns phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
Ophthalmic Assistant Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of Ophthalmology experience (previous retina experience preferred).
- Willingness to be flexible in job assignment (location, provider, etc.).
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician.
Ophthalmic Assistant Minimum Demonstrated Skills
- Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.
- Consistently works high volume of patients per day.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms and ocular meds.
- Has a basic knowledge of contact lenses.
- Utilizes proper eyedrop technique and sterility.
- Understands and uses proper sterile techniques.
- Utilizes proper universal precaution procedures.
- Understands and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consents.
- Scribes readily when doctor desires.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment.
Ophthalmic Assistant Accurately performs:
- Refractions,
- Lensometry,
- Keratometry,
- Tonometry,
- Visual fields,
- Amsler Grids,
- Muscle testing,
- Pupil Exams
