Accountant

Position Description:

The Accountant will be responsible for the accounting integrity of the various accounting funds, reconciliation of the bank accounts, grant reimbursement requests, tagged inventory, and assisting the Executive Director of Budgets and Accounting with the preparation of the annual audited financial report and the Annual Financial Report to the State.

Scope of Responsibility:

• Works closely with the budget and accounting staff, the Executive Director of Budget and Accounting, the Executive Director of Grants and Federal Programs and the Chief Financial Officer to drive the mission, vision, and assist in the development of a set of measurable objectives for Finance group.
• Ensures the budget and accounting records are in compliance with federal statutes and regulations, state laws, BESE rules and regulations, JPS policies and procedures, and relevant contractual obligations.
• Coordinates with other units and departments to review operating budgets and accounting data.
• Manages internal control procedures on cash and accounting transactions.
• Exercises proper financial controls.
• For local, state and federal grants, the accountant will analyze and request reimbursements for assigned funds on a monthly basis by working closely with the budget and accounting staff, and director of grants and federal programs.
• An accountant will be responsible for monitoring and updating the fund listing spreadsheet monthly. This includes determining source of funding, such as local, state or federal and obtaining the grant award notification for audit purposes. The accountant will also be responsible for notifying the Director of Accounting, Executive Director of Budgeting and Accounting, Chief Financial Officer and any other necessary personnel of the new funding.
• Update and create budget and assist with reports for specific funds as requested by the director and coordinator of grants and federal programs.
• Work closely with the Director of Accounting, the Executive Director of Budgeting and Accounting, and the Chief Financial Officer with the preparation of the annual audited financial report and the Annual Financial Report to the State.
• Manage tagged inventory system for the entire district.
• Assist with the online payment platform used by the schools and district.
• Completion of the monthly bank reconciliation.
• Review of expenses to ensure proper coding in accordance with LAUGH manual.
• Analyze and reconcile all revenues and verify that all expenditures are accrued accordingly for the specific fund.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting or the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • 3Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Two (2) years accounting in a school system or other local educational agency.
  • 2 years of progressively increasing experience in finance and accounting.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) at an intermediate level.
  • Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
  • High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
  • Ability to adapt to high pressure situations.

   

  Physical Involvement:

   

  Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds is required.
