EL Paraprofessional

Reports to: Building Principal in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Language Programs

General Summary: Assist limited English proficient students in the process of learning academic English in an educational environment.

Essential Functions:

• Assisting EL students with English language development.
• Assisting the EL teacher to coordinate EL services.
• Assisting with appropriate record keeping, data and standardized assessments.
• Assisting students in adapting to a new culture.
• Assisting EL students with schoolwork.
• Coordinating student services with other teachers as directed by the EL teacher.
• Attending EL staff meetings for direction and professional development.
• Performing other reasonable related duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge and Ability:

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express ideas
• thoughts and instruction clearly to staff, patrons and students
• Ability to collaborate effectively on inter- and intra-agency levels
• Knowledge and experience with computer software and systems
• Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct and tact when dealing with all
• Ability to drive a car

Qualifications:

• Two years college or university, or the ability to pass the paraprofessional
• Ability to work with students in a one to one, small group or classroom setting, under supervision of a certified teacher.
• Desired: Bilingual and/or cross-cultural experienced preferred

Length of Position: 180 (school year)
