SUMMARY Oversee the district's grants, special revenue funds, and capital asset accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial data related to restricted funding and capital investments. Lead financial oversight of grant programs and capital projects, maintain strong internal controls, and supervise a high-performing accounting team. Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal Uniform Guidance, and Colorado school finance requirements; coordinate Single Audit and external audit activities related to assigned areas; and provide financial guidance to departments and school leaders to support effective stewardship of public funds. Drive the effective use of accounting systems and process improvements to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in restricted and capital financial operations.

Lead, supervise, and develop a high-performing special revenue and capital accounting team; establish standardized workflows, performance expectations, and professional development plans to ensure operational excellence and staff growth.
Maintain and direct all day-to-day accounting policies and operational procedures related to grants, special revenue funds, and capital assets, including revenue recognition, expenditure tracking, and fund balancing; implement automation and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Develop, implement, and maintain districtwide accounting policies and standardized procedures that establish consistent expectations, ensure regulatory compliance, promote operational efficiency, and enhance the identification of financial data anomalies, risks, and process gaps.
Monitor grant budgets and expenditures for allowability, allocability, and compliance; identify and address potential compliance risks, overspending, or other issues affecting restricted funds.
Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for restricted funds and capital assets in accordance with GAAP, GASB standards, and applicable federal and state regulations, including the requirements of federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
Coordinate the preparation and submission of required financial reports related to grants, special revenues, and capital projects; contribute to districtwide financial reporting, including the ACFR, for assigned funds and asset categories.
Coordinate and serve as the primary financial lead for the district's Single Audit as it relates to grants and restricted programs, supporting both external and internal audit activities as needed.
Oversee grants accounting and budgeting to support stakeholders with effective grants management, leading the work with a strong customer-service orientation.
Establish and oversee structured collaboration, financial workflows, and internal control processes between the Construction team and capital asset accounting staff to ensure timely project cost reporting, accurate capitalization, compliance with accounting standards, and effective stewardship of bond and capital funds.
Oversee capital asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, construction-in-progress tracking and bond-funded project accounting.
Leverage the district's ERP system and AI-enabled tools to streamline workflows, enhance reporting, and improve the accuracy and efficiency of accounting operations.
Lead and contribute to cross functional and districtwide financial initiatives and special projects.

EXPERIENCE Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role. Experience in public sector or school district accounting strongly preferred.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING Bachelor's degree required. Preferred field of study of accounting, finance, business administration, accounting systems management, or related field. Additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, including GAAP and GASB standards, fund accounting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance related to restricted funds and capital assets. Knowledge of federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), grant compliance requirements, capital asset accounting, and Colorado school finance and state reporting requirements. Skilled in overseeing accounting and reporting for grants, special revenue funds, and capital projects; monitoring compliance and allowable expenditures; developing standardized procedures; and supervising professional accounting staff. Skilled in preparing grant and capital-related financial reports and coordinating Single Audit and external audit requirements. Ability to analyze financial data, identify compliance risks, interpret evolving regulations, communicate complex fiscal requirements clearly to diverse stakeholders, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound professional judgment while maintaining confidentiality.
SPAN OF CONTROL Supervises a team of professional and technical accounting staff responsible for grants, special revenue funds, and capital asset accounting functions. The position exercises decision-making authority over restricted fund and capital accounting operations, including developing policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), state regulations, and district policies; overseeing grant financial reporting and capital asset lifecycle management; and maintaining internal controls specific to restricted and capital activities. The role has authority to implement process, workflow, and system improvements that affect grant and capital financial operations across schools and departments, coordinate Single Audit and external audit requirements related to assigned areas, and make recommendations that influence financial compliance, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency district-wide.
