Job Summary

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading all manufacturing operations within a DreamFields' production facility. This position oversees day-to-day production, processing, packaging, maintenance, inventory accuracy, quality, safety, labor planning, and regulatory compliance while ensuring operational excellence across the site. Reporting to the Regional Director of Manufacturing Operations, the Plant Manager is accountable for achieving production targets, optimizing labor productivity, reducing manufacturing costs, improving operational efficiencies, and developing high-performing teams. The Plant Manager partners closely with Supply Chain, Quality, Compliance, Engineering, Automation, Human Resources, Finance, and Maintenance to ensure the facility consistently meets business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with extensive experience leading high-volume production operations within highly regulated manufacturing environments.

Duties/Responsibilities

Manufacturing Operations Leadership

  • Lead all daily manufacturing operations for the production facility.
  • Direct Production, Processing, Packaging, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Manufacturing Support teams.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Drive accountability and operational excellence across all manufacturing functions.
  • Build a culture focused on safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with company SOPs, GMP standards, OSHA regulations, and state cannabis regulations.

Production Planning & Execution

  • Execute daily and weekly production schedules to achieve customer demand and inventory targets.
  • Coordinate production priorities with Planning, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams.
  • Optimize staffing levels based on production forecasts and operational requirements.
  • Monitor manufacturing capacity and proactively remove production constraints.
  • Improve throughput while minimizing downtime and maximizing resource utilization.

Operational Performance & KPI Management

  • Analyze operational trends and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
  • Own and improve key manufacturing KPIs, including:
  • Production throughput
  • Schedule attainment
  • Labor productivity
  • OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Yield
  • Scrap and waste reduction
  • Cost per unit
  • Downtime reduction
  • Attendance
  • Inventory accuracy
  • Customer service levels

Continuous Improvement

  • Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead Kaizen events and process improvement projects.
  • Standardize manufacturing processes and best practices.
  • Improve labor utilization, workflow efficiency, and production effectiveness.
  • Partner with Engineering and Automation teams to improve equipment performance.
  • Identify opportunities to increase production capacity while reducing costs.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and local cannabis regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to all quality systems, SOPs, and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Compliance teams during audits and inspections.
  • Ensure CAPAs are implemented, sustained, and effective.
  • Promote a culture of quality, compliance, and operational discipline.

Financial Management

  • Manage plant operating expenses and departmental budgets.
  • Monitor labor costs, overtime, manufacturing variances, and production expenses.
  • Support annual budgets, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure spending remains within approved budget parameters.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain manufacturing leaders and frontline supervisors.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish development plans.
  • Build organizational capability through succession planning and leadership development.
  • Foster employee engagement, accountability, and high performance.
  • Promote a collaborative and results-driven culture.

Safety & Environmental Health

  • Promote and maintain a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, observations, and facility inspections.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Partner with Environmental Health & Safety teams to improve workplace safety.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Supply Chain, Planning, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Compliance, Engineering, Automation, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Finance.
  • Align production goals, staffing plans, inventory requirements, and customer demand.
  • Support effective communication and coordination across all functional areas.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop, maintain, and present operational performance reporting and dashboards related to production, labor, quality, inventory, safety, and cost performance metrics.
  • Provide regular operational updates, performance reviews, and recommendations to the Regional Director of Manufacturing Operations.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, production planning, and capacity management.
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and operational excellence methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of KPI management, including throughput, OEE, yield, labor productivity, inventory accuracy, and cost performance.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, GMP standards, OSHA requirements, and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and coach managers, supervisors, and frontline employees.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across Supply Chain, Quality, Compliance, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Finance.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, manufacturing reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Education And Experience

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field required.

Required Experience

  • 8 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Senior Production Manager, or similar manufacturing leadership role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success improving productivity, quality, throughput, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience managing production, maintenance, quality, inventory, and warehouse operations.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, labor planning, staffing strategies, and workforce optimization.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational performance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional)

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading facility expansions, automation initiatives, or large-scale process improvement programs.
  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Experience operating within highly regulated production environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing, warehouse, and production environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk the production floor regularly and perform frequent site inspections.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety standards.
  • Ability to work in varying manufacturing conditions, including exposure to noise, machinery, temperature fluctuations, and production-related environments.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and utilize computer systems for reporting, analysis, and communication.
  • Ability to respond to operational issues outside of standard business hours when necessary.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 15% travel as business needs require.
  • Travel may include visits to company facilities, corporate offices, vendors, training programs, audits, industry events, and operational support activities.

Work Schedule (Exempt)

This is a full-time, exempt position. The role requires the flexibility to work the hours necessary to meet business needs, which may include extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work schedules and expectations may be adjusted based on operational priorities and organizational demands. On-site presence may be required for team meetings, cross-functional initiatives, business reviews, and other collaborative activities.
