Plant Manager – Automotive Manufacturing (Union Environment)
What You Will Do:
As a Plant Manager, you will lead a high-performing manufacturing operation, driving excellence across safety, quality, delivery, and cost. You’ll have full ownership of plant performance, with the opportunity to shape strategy, develop teams, and implement continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced automotive environment.
- Own plant performance, including production, quality, safety, and financial results
- Develop and manage short- and long-term budgets, ensuring alignment with operational and financial targets
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to deliver production plans on time and within cost expectations
- Implement and optimize systems to control:
- Capital expenditures
- Operating costs
- Labor and workforce planning
- Lead efforts to reduce overtime, premium freight, and maintenance-related costs
- Oversee facility operations and capital assets, including maintenance, upgrades, and improvements
- Drive and sustain a culture of continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure achievement of plant goals
- Champion preventative maintenance programs to ensure uptime and equipment reliability
- Promote shop floor organization (5S) and a clean, efficient work environment
- Lead, coach, and develop both union (hourly) and salaried teams
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
What You Will Bring
- 8 years of Plant Management or General Management experience within a manufacturing environment
- 8 years of leadership experience in a union environment (UAW experience strongly preferred)
- Proven experience leading both salaried and hourly teams
- Strong background in automotive manufacturing (OEM or Tier 1 highly preferred)
- Hands-on expertise in:
- Lean Manufacturing
- Continuous Improvement methodologies
- Six Sigma tools and problem-solving approaches
- Demonstrated success managing plant budgets and driving cost improvements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive OEM (GM strongly preferred) or Tier 1 supplier experience
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Lean Manufacturing certification
- Experience supporting launches or new program ramp-ups
Work Environment & Schedule
- Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Flexibility required during launches and peak production periods
- Up to 25% travel
- Regular presence on the manufacturing floor, including occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs)
