Job Summary:
The Civils Field Superintendent is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing daily field operations on civil construction projects. This individual must be highly skilled in heavy equipment operation and civil site development, with the ability to manage crews, coordinate project resources, and ensure high-quality and safe execution of work. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, exceptional communication skills, and a results-driven approach to managing field activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators, backhoes, and dozers.
- Interpret blueprints and site plans; develop material and equipment lists as needed for project execution.
- Lead, direct, and motivate field crews of various sizes and experience levels.
- Oversee all aspects of site development including grading, trenching, pipe laying, foundations, footings, and concrete work.
- Ensure projects are completed according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
- Maintain a safe job site and enforce company and regulatory safety standards.
- Mentor and train less experienced team members to build crew competency and cohesion.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and clients on project status and site needs.
- Perform impact analysis related to scheduling changes and report findings as necessary.
- Uphold company values and foster a professional, respectful jobsite culture.
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in operating heavy construction equipment.
- Solid understanding of civil construction techniques and procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent leadership and crew management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of project scheduling and ability to identify schedule impacts.
- Valid CDL Class A license with an exemplary safety record. (Preferred)
- Proficient in identifying and resolving jobsite issues in real-time.
- Strong background in civil construction and site development.
- Proven experience in underground utilities is required.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
