Position Summary

The Assistant Administrator on Duty (Assistant AOD) plays a key leadership role in supporting 24/7 operations at our Residential Treatment Center for adolescents impacted by trauma and mental health challenges. This position ensures safety, compliance, and consistent therapeutic practices by guiding staff, responding to crises, conducting campus rounds, and coordinating with leadership teams. Working closely with the AOD, Residential Directors, and Supervisors, the Assistant AOD upholds trauma-informed principles while maintaining a safe, healing environment for youth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Program Oversight

  • Provide direction, coaching, and guidance to RYC staff to ensure compliance with policies and trauma-informed care.
  • Maintain open communication with AODs, Directors, Supervisors, and clinical teams.
  • Assist in identifying program needs and implementing solutions with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in programmatic and clinical meetings, offering operational insights.
  • Support therapeutic interventions and treatment plan implementation.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions, promotions, or other staff status changes.
  • Manage client/staff movement and ensure environmental safety.
  • Model trauma-informed engagement and intervention strategies.
  • Employ Sanctuary and TCI principles to promote safety.
  • Create a welcoming environment for families and visitors.
  • Be on-call when necessary for emergency staffing coverage.

Campus Operations and Compliance

  • Conduct routine/unannounced rounds of cottages and program areas.
  • Patrol campus regularly and maintain a visible staff presence.
  • Ensure safety and security policies are consistently applied.
  • Document and communicate safety and quality concerns.
  • Act as a first responder to alarms and critical incidents.
  • Redirect youth out of program areas as needed.
  • Conduct inventory checks/searches following AWOL or unsupervised time.
  • Investigate suspicious activity to ensure safety.
  • Oversee campus transportation and maintain related logs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of shift-related reports.
  • Drive agency vehicles for campus patrols or youth/staff transport.
  • Secure administrative buildings after hours.
  • Coordinate with school safety teams as needed.
  • Carry and monitor radios to maintain communication.

Crisis Response and Collaboration

  • Assist AODs and staff with immediate crisis responses.
  • Triage incidents and coordinate treatment planning with RYC and school teams.
  • Collaborate with IT, Facilities, and emergency responders as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal/external stakeholders during crises.

Staff Support and Development

  • Model trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to enhance staff skillsets.
  • Promote a positive, accountable, youth-centered work culture.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Complete logs, incident reports, census records, and shift turnovers.
  • Record all staffing and critical incidents in agency systems.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Human Services preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience with youth in residential or similar settings.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong crisis management experience required.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license preferred (NJ/CT acceptable).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and ability to model it.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability in emergencies or operational changes.
  • Familiarity with OCFS/ACS regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse clients and professionals.
  • Understanding of structural racism in child welfare contexts.
  • Must pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.

 

Salary: $64,500 annually
