Position Summary

The Administrator on Duty (AOD) provides critical 24/7 operational and administrative oversight for Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs) serving adolescents with trauma-related and mental health challenges. As a key leader on campus, the AOD ensures staff compliance with agency policies, maintains safety and coverage standards, supports therapeutic interventions, and models trauma-informed care in all interactions. Working closely with Residential Supervisors, Directors, and clinical teams, the AOD plays a central role in crisis management, staff supervision, and ensuring a safe, structured, and healing environment.

Key Essential Functions

Leadership

  • Identify program needs and implement solution-based protocols with senior staff and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with agency and program policies under the RTC AOD Director
  • Actively participate in programmatic and clinical meetings
  • Contribute ideas for program development and growth
  • Manage daily campus operations, including client/staff movement and environmental safety
  • Triage and manage critical incidents in coordination with relevant stakeholders
  • Support implementation of youth treatment planning
  • Provide supervision and guidance to Residential Youth Counselors (RYCs)
  • Address all incidents of aggression/violence with youth and treatment teams
  • Be available on -call for emergency staffing needs as needed

Management

  • Direct work of RYC and admin staff in collaboration with Residential Supervisors
  • Maintain detailed shift records in AOD Logs
  • Liaise with the school while ensuring FERPA confidentiality
  • Conduct and document rounds to all living units (4 times per active shift; 3 times per inactive shift)
  • Oversee petty cash disbursement and vehicle assignments (fleet remains under Facilities)
  • Monitor offices, common areas, and building perimeters for safety and quality
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, manage per diem list, and address coverage gaps
  • Provide crisis support and instruction during RS absences; model TCI techniques
  • Ensure staff have access to necessary tools (radios, keys, etc.)
  • Support daily transitions and time-home/weekend planning
  • Participate in shift debriefings and maintain communication via radio and agency cell phone
  • Uphold and model trauma-informed care practices

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Human Services or related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with youth in residential/behavioral health settings
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a similar environment
  • Valid NYS driver’s license (CT or NJ also acceptable)
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings per ORR requirements

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Effective delegation and task management abilities
  • Interpersonal skills to work with diverse staff and youth populations
  • Experience in trauma-informed and youth-centered approaches
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Understanding of OCFS and ACS regulations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new platforms
  • Culturally competent and committed to equity in care
  • Must pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training

 

Salary: $72,000 annually
