JB Steel is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer with advanced Tekla Structures experience to join our dynamic team. Based in Medford, Oregon—with a flexible remote hybrid option for qualified candidates.

Candidates are required to be located, or willing to relocate to the west coast within a few hours of JB Steel’s office in Medford Oregon - Close enough to visit clients in the Pacific Northwest and to have a regular presence with the team in our fabrication shop here in Medford.

The Structural Steel Detailer is responsible for creating detailed drawings and plans for the fabrication and erection of Steel frameworks used during construction. As well as the design/detail of stairs, guardrail, and miscellaneous metal products from structural drawings following all applicable building codes. This role requires a keen eye for detail, and a thorough understanding of construction and fabrication processes. An individual in this role will be proficient in industry-standard CAD software and have excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, and construction teams.

This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional passionate about precision, collaboration, and innovative Steel detailing.

Responsibilities

• Create Detailed Drawings: Develop accurate and comprehensive drawings using CAD software, detailing the specifications and dimensions of Steel structures.
• Collaborate with Project Team: Work closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and construction teams to resolve design challenges and ensure accuracy.
• Review Project Specifications: Analyze project plans and blueprints to understand the scope and requirements of the Steel structures to be detailed.
• Material List Preparation: Prepare material lists, bills of materials, and fabrication documents for all Steel components, ensuring all necessary parts are accounted for.
• Quality Assurance: Verify the accuracy of drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specs & JB Steel’s quality requirements.
• Shop Drawings: Prepare detailed shop drawings for fabrication, including connection details, welding requirements, and other necessary information.
• Field Support: Provide technical support to construction teams during the erection process, addressing any issues or discrepancies that arise.
• Review & Revise: Amend drawings based on feedback and project updates, maintaining version control and documentation standards.
• Stay Updated: Keep informed on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the quality and efficiency of detailing work.
• Participate in project meetings and collaborate regularly with team members.
• Crosstrain in Estimating to ensure & assist with maintaining steady workflow.
• Additional duties as directed by Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years experience in Structural Steel Detailing, including misc. metals.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Tekla Structures software, AutoCAD and other industry-standard tools.
• Strong technical drawing, modeling, and documentation skills.
• Strong understanding of Steel fabrication processes, and industry standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and project specifications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects maintaining a high level of quality & accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with additional CAD or BIM platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, SDS/2, Revit).
• Background in Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB) detailing.
• Experience with Strumis Steel fabrication software.
• Relevant certifications such as NISD Detailer Certification or AISC credentials.
• Familiarity with Lean construction principles and modern project management tools.
