Job Summary:
The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop activities, supervising mechanics and technicians, and ensuring all maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. This role coordinates equipment maintenance schedules, manages repair priorities, and supports procurement and facility operations to ensure equipment reliability and field readiness. The Shop Foreman serves as a working leader, combining hands-on mechanical expertise with strong team leadership and operational coordination.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise daily activities of mechanics, welders, and other shop personnel, providing direction, mentorship, and technical support.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance and repairs for company-owned equipment, including trucks, pumps, compressors, and heavy oilfield machinery.
- Prioritize and assign work orders to minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
- Enforce company safety standards and procedures, ensuring a safe, compliant, and organized work environment at all times.
- Manage shop inventory, including parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and timely replenishment.
- Collaborate with the Shop Manager and field leadership to align repair priorities with operational demands.
- Support equipment and vehicle procurement processes—researching suppliers, obtaining quotes, and coordinating with the Truck Pusher/IT for specifications and delivery.
- Oversee or assist in facility-related maintenance, repairs, and construction projects, ensuring quality and adherence to company and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, equipment service history, and inventory usage.
- Conduct routine inspections to verify quality of repairs and compliance with maintenance standards.
- Support onboarding, training, and skill development of shop staff.
- Prepare and submit reports on shop productivity, safety metrics, and equipment status.
- Perform hands-on mechanical or repair work as needed to support shop operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical and technical knowledge of oilfield and industrial equipment, including pumps, engines, valves, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate a team in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
- Strong understanding of shop safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Skilled in maintenance scheduling, resource allocation, and inventory control.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance tracking or inventory management software.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and maintain focus on operational priorities.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification in mechanics or industrial maintenance preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in equipment maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead mechanic role.
- Experience in oil and gas, construction, or heavy equipment operations strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Must be physically able to operate manual transmission vehicles.
- Must be able to operate manual transmission vehicles and heavy shop tools as needed.
- Regular exposure to oilfield conditions, heavy machinery, and equipment.
