What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Heavy-Duty Diagnostic Technician position at jax truck works?
Jax Truck Works is looking for an experienced Senior Heavy-Duty Diagnostic Technician to join our growing repair facility. We need a true diagnostic technician who can accurately troubleshoot complex electrical, electronic, engine, transmission, ABS, and aftertreatment problems—not simply replace parts based on fault codes.
The technician must be comfortable diagnosing commercial trucks, diesel engines, medium/heavy-duty vehicles, and RV/motorhome chassis.
Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced computer diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Diagnose J1939/CAN data-link and communication problems
- Diagnose electrical shorts, opens, wiring, grounds, relays, sensors, and modules
- Diagnose engine performance and drivability problems
- Diagnose transmission and electronic shift-control problems
- Diagnose ABS and chassis electrical systems
- Diagnose DPF, DEF, SCR, NOx, regeneration, and aftertreatment systems
- Perform forced regenerations and diagnostic testing
- Read wiring diagrams and OEM service information
- Use OEM and aftermarket diagnostic software
- Determine the root cause of failures before recommending parts
- Provide clear findings and repair recommendations to the service department
- Work with other technicians after diagnosis to ensure repairs are completed correctly
- Perform programming/calibration when qualified and equipped
- Conduct post-repair testing and verify that the original complaint has been corrected
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of professional truck/diesel repair experience preferred
- Strong electrical and electronic diagnostic skills
- Experience with Class 6–8 trucks strongly preferred
- Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Volvo/Mack, CAT, International, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Isuzu, Ford or similar platforms is valuable
- Experience with diagnostic software and scan tools
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical service information
- Must be able to diagnose independently
- Must have own basic hand tools
- Valid driver's license
- CDL is a plus
- ASE certifications are a plus
What We're Looking For:
We are specifically looking for a diagnostician, not a parts changer. The right person should be able to take a difficult vehicle that other technicians have struggled with, develop a diagnostic plan, test the system, identify the actual failure, and document what needs to be repaired.
Compensation: Competitive and based on experience and diagnostic ability.
Pay: $27.01 - $32.53 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
