Dietitian - Part Time

Purpose:  The Dietitian will align his/her scope of work with Jawonio’s Mission, while incorporating Jawonio’s Core Values as the guiding principle for all work activities.

Overview:  The Dietitian plans and oversees nutritional services in Jawonio’s Community Living Services and Nursing & Health Related Clinical Services. The Dietitian is responsible for providing health care education by developing, implementing, and evaluating classroom and clinical instruction to support the orientation, ongoing educational needs, and professional development of employees & service recipients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. The Dietitian will enhance the Agency’s overall training program for the health and care of those we support.
2. Facilitate several agency wide health & well-being trainings such as, but not limited to:  Blood Borne Pathogens, Choking Prevention, Diabetes & Heart Disease prevention.
3. Perform ongoing assessments of the health trainings through analysis of quality indicators and discussions with program staff and management.  Will develop and facilitate trainings to meet the health needs of the program & service recipients.
4. Maintain records related to health-related trainings, including attendance sheets, written tests, and certifications.
5. Maintain medical records related to client specific needs and consultations.
6. Participate in quality improvement activities and ensure that records and documentation meet regulatory and professional standards.
7. Monitor Fisher ICF to ensure regulatory compliance.
8. Participate in various meetings and committees regarding the agency’s health care and related services.
9. Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends offering necessary trainings to all staff and ensuring compliance
10. Partner with other licensed medical professionals at the Agency (i.e., Director of Nursing, Medical Director, etc.) to ensure all training material is compliant with most up to date medical practices as well as for any and all needed medical/healthcare guidance.
11. Counsels and meets with individuals receiving services and their families, guardians, advocates, or caregivers on the philosophy of nutrition and instructs them in meal planning (including food economy, selection, and preparation) while keeping attuned to individual, cultural, and ethnic preferences.
12. Conducts nutrition assessments and obtains nutritional history from individuals receiving services.
13. Develops individualized dietary plans and menus based on an individual’s nutritional need, dietary restrictions, and preferences.
14. Completes all mandated reporting requirements by Jawonio and regulating agencies including but not limited to the following:
    1. Dietary clinical notes and recommendations.
    2. Menus and other pertinent information to allow for clinical review and analysis of nutritional and dietary plans.
    3. Documents nutrition care plans and information into individual’s medical records.
    4. Other Agency related reports and documentation.
15. Ensures Fisher ICF menus and meals are created based on consumer’s clinical dietary needs and preferences while offering weekly, monthly, and seasonal variations.
16. Performs a variety of purchasing and procurement activities for food and equipment for the residences. Investigates and recommends vendors. Audits and approves bills as appropriate for purchases, verifying prices, amounts, delivery, and other details.
17. Participates in clinical meetings to review nature of diets and menus prepared, nutritional values maintained, and details to ensure Jawonio is meeting desired criteria and goals.
18. Must cooperate and participate fully with Jawonio and/or Justice Center and OPWDD during an investigation or inspection, including making verbal and written statements as requested by the person(s) doing the investigation.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food Preparation or Nutrition from a regionally accredited college or university, plus completion of ADA approved post graduate Clinical Fellow Year or Master's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition plus registration by the ADA and minimum 1 year experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general medical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, consumers, and families.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Software:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Precision Care, Smartboard presentations and ability to learn new software systems.

Additional Requirements:

• Daily access to an automobile is required. A valid Driver License and ability to drive.
• Travel to multiple residences in community as needed.

• Requires flexing regular schedule to accommodate operational needs.
• Frequent contact with service recipients, employees, and supervisory management.
• Must be cleared by the Justice Center via fingerprinting and other background checks.
