ABOUT THE POSITION
The Controller is a critical position in the accounting department that reports directly to the Director of Finance & Accounting and manages multiple direct reports. This position will oversee all Month End close, inventory and audit related responsibilities. This is an in office position with no remote options
Key Deliverables
- Ensure timeliness of monthly close
- Produce financial statements on a monthly basis to Upper Management
- Oversee annual audit
- Provide support to Director of Finance & Accounting and CFO on key projects
- Aid in development of key KPI’s as well as control environment
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Ensures timely submission, accuracy and validity of monthly financial statements
- Supports the Director of Finance & Accounting, CFO, Sales and Operations with any ad hoc reporting requests
- Responds timely to all Audit requests
- Supports and helps oversee month end responsibilities to ensure proper GAAP Accounting occurred
- Join ERP implementation team and aid in the system implementation
- Streamline processes throughout the department
- Develop and train team to its fullest potential
- Work closely with Director of Finance & Accounting to develop annual goal setting and SMART Goals
- Runs, analyzes, and summarizes monthly financial statements with thorough explanation of variances
- Aid in development of Annual budget process
- Prepares various month-end close reports and journal entries as needed.
- Projects a positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers, and management in a cooperative, supportive, and courteous manner; displays a professional attitude.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
- B.S. degree in accounting or Finance, minimum of 5-10 years of accounting experience and good understanding of accounting principles required.
- CPA or advanced degree preferred
- Controller experience or progressive management movement as well as experience managing employees is a must
- Knowledge of ERP systems (PDI or similar gas related software preferred). ERP implementation experience is a plus
- Microsoft Office knowledge, advanced Excel skills
- Industry experience is a plus
- Cash flow management
- Good organization and time-management skills.
- Willingness to accept responsibility and take on new challenges.
- Accurate data entry/typing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a customary and regular basis.
- Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Supervisor and Leadership Expectations
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Accounting Department. Directly supervises multiple employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with JAT Energy policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in compliance with any applicable employment law guidelines and upon consultation with the Director of Finance & Accounting and/or the Director of Human Resources, if necessary.
