Position Overview
We are seeking a Technical Design Machinist to support an onsite client engineering team in Indianapolis. This role is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys working closely with engineers, programming CNC equipment, and supporting the full lifecycle of custom mechanical equipment development.
You’ll be embedded on‑site, working day‑to‑day with a multidisciplinary engineering team to fabricate precision components, support assembly and debugging efforts, and provide direct manufacturability feedback during design.
This is a day shift, core 9AM-3PM, Monday–Friday position with some flexibility around start/end times.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain CNC and manual shop equipment, including mills and lathes
- Program CNC machines using Autodesk Inventor CAM
- Machine aluminum, stainless steel, and engineering plastics (Delrin, PEEK, etc.)
- Produce tight‑tolerance components (±0.001” and tighter when required)
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Navigate 3D CAD models to extract geometry and support CAM workflows
- Identify manufacturability issues and collaborate directly with engineers on solutions
- Support assembly, debug, and testing of custom equipment
- Manage priorities to meet project schedules in a fast‑paced environment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized machining workspace
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of machining experience (CNC manual)
- Day‑one proficiency in Autodesk Inventor CAM
- Experience operating CNC mills/lathes (Hurco WinMax preferred)
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
- Proven experience machining to close tolerances
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with engineering teams
- High school diploma or equivalent (trade or vocational training strongly preferred)
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of client required background check and drug screening.
Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have)
- Experience with ProtoTRAK or Siemens CNC controls
- Familiarity with Autodesk Vault or similar PDM systems
- Experience in regulated environments (pharma, medical, aerospace, ISO/FDA)
- Continuous-improvement mindset
- Willingness to support occasional overtime as projects require
