Position Overview
We are seeking a high-performing Low Voltage Lead Technician capable of leading commercial projects from rough-in through final commissioning. This individual will oversee field crews, maintain quality and safety standards, coordinate with project management, and serve as the primary on-site representative for customers.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate is technically strong, organized, professional in appearance, and confident managing commercial installations across communications, fire alarm, access control, and IP video systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Field Leadership
- Lead and supervise installation crews on commercial low-voltage projects
- Plan daily work activities to maintain schedule and labor efficiency
- Coordinate with Project Manager regarding manpower, materials, and job progress
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce jobsite safety standards
- Serve as the primary on-site customer contact
- Maintain a neat, professional, customer-facing appearance at all times
Structured Cabling
- Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber systems (Cat6/6A, OM3/OM4, OS2)
- Rack, dress, and organize network cabinets to professional standards
- Perform cable certification testing and documentation
- Create and update red-lined as-built drawings using PDF markup software
Fire Alarm
- Install and troubleshoot fire alarm devices and panels
- Support addressing, programming coordination, and system pre-testing
- Ensure installations comply with NFPA 72 and NEC requirements
- Assist with inspections and system turnover
Access Control & IP Video
- Install door hardware (electric strikes, mag locks, REX devices, crash bars)
- Terminate and install access control panels and field devices
- Install and commission IP camera systems and associated hardware
- Coordinate with IT teams for VLANs, PoE budgets, and network connectivity
Documentation & Accountability
- Complete timesheets, change orders, material tracking, and required documentation accurately and on time
- Perform internal quality checks prior to inspection
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe jobsite conditions
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or Home school equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of commercial low-voltage installation experience
- Proven ability to lead crews and manage jobsite workflow
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics
- Ability to produce and update as-built drawings using PDF software (Bluebeam or similar)
- Working knowledge of low-voltage color codes and labeling standards
- Basic understanding of IP networking principles
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
- Professional and presentable appearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Virginia Security Technician Registration (preferred but not required)
- NICET certification (Fire Alarm) or demonstrated familiarity with NFPA 72 requirements
- Experience working with major access control, video management, and fire alarm platforms
- Familiarity with BICSI and TIA standards and/or relevant certification
- Experience with jobsite safety requirements, OSHA standards, and completion of required safety documentation (including incident reporting and safety logs)
Physical Requirements
- Work at heights, on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
- Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
- Distinguish conductor colors and read small print
- Reliable attendance required
