As our Professional Development Coordinator, you will be the primary advocate for Tribal Citizens pursuing their dreams. From managing tuition assistance and enrichment funds to providing hands-on career coaching, your work will directly empower the next generation of Tribal leaders and professionals. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. 

 

Essential Functions

Higher Education Program

  • Program Administration: Administer the Higher Education tuition assistance program; evaluate and suggest policy updates as needs and trends arise.

  • Marketing & Outreach: Create newsletters, social media marketing, and recruitment materials for scholarships and tuition programs.

  • Student Advocacy: Proactively assist Tribal Citizens with applications, financial aid, and academic grade evaluations; provide letters of recommendation and loan forgiveness education.

  • Financial Stewardship: Manage annual budgets; facilitate timely tuition payments to colleges and universities; assess student annual costs of attendance.

  • Committee Leadership: Coordinate with the Higher Education Committee Chair to develop agendas, prepare meeting documents, and manage logistics.

  • Professional Relationships: Develop and maintain local and nationwide partnerships with college personnel and financial aid departments.

  • Recognition: Coordinate annual recognition events for graduates at the Annual Picnic and within the Tribal Newsletter.

Enrichment Program

  • Administration: Manage the Enrichment Program, maintaining records and reporting in compliance with policies.

  • Financial Processing: Create payment requisitions for vendor orders and reimbursements to Tribal Citizens.

  • Budget Monitoring: Track program spending and notify leadership of trends to ensure the budget remains aligned with community needs.

Vocational Development

  • Career Coaching: Assist Tribal Citizens and descendants in developing professional resumes and cover letters.

  • Skill Building: Teach essential job application techniques and interview skills.

  • Resource Connection: Guide clients through job search strategies and connect them to training programs or search organizations.

Other SCS Duties

  • Provide administrative support to the Family Services Manager and participate in case staffing.

  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Tribal Council and ensure compliance with grant requirements.

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for Higher Education and Teen Career Exploration (TCEP) Title VI programs.

  • Adhere to all JST policies, including safety standards and work practices.

 

Requirements

  • Education: Associate degree with three (3) years’ experience in social or human services or assistance programs.

  • Cultural Competency: Knowledge of Indian culture and communities required; ability to manage client relationships with respect to Tribal traditions.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of college applications, academic evaluation, and career development.

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills; comfortable speaking in front of large groups and Tribal Council.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access).

  • Organization: Proven ability to manage intricate details and maintain thorough documentation.

  • Licensing: Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a criminal background investigation.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or related area.

  • Previous experience working with higher education institutions.

  • American Indian/Alaska Native preferences apply.
