Assists teacher with instructor-related work in a cooperative and supportive effort. Provides additional time for direct instruction by the teacher. Responsible for reinforcement of instruction under specific instruction from the teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in behavioral skill practice and reinforcement activities, previously introduced by the teacher or behavior specialist, either individually or in small groups.
- Supports students in developing positive behavioral, social, and emotional regulation skills through structured activities, learning games, modeled strategies, and use of behavior-support materials.
- Assists with lunch, attendance, and other classroom operational records, including documentation related to behavior interventions and student support needs.
- Assists in maintaining complete and accurate student records, including behavior data, progress-monitoring notes, and intervention logs as directed.
- Escorts students to and from buses, in study halls, lunch, free time, classrooms, and other areas of the school, ensuring consistent implementation of behavioral expectations across settings.
- Encourages and assists students in completing individual or group learning and behavior-support assignments by reteaching, coaching, or reinforcing targeted behavioral skills.
- Assists students in correctly using instructional supplies, materials, and behavior-support tools.
- Performs clerical duties, including preparing and operating technology, photocopying, laminating, and preparing instructional or behavioral intervention materials.
- Provides input to the teacher in planning daily and long-range instructional and behavioral support programs for students.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Must possess a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to communicate through clear and grammatically proper speech, and basic writing and computing skills.
Concern for general welfare and education of children; ability to accept and support all children; ability to maintain confidentiality.
Patience, dependability, interest, punctuality, and ability to follow directions.
Teacher Assistant II: completion of a minimum of 48 hours of college credit.
Supervision Exercised
Monitors classroom activities in absence of the teacher.

Performs duties under the direct supervision of assigned teacher; receives annual performance evaluation from the principal.

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employees are regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students’ physical or sanitation/hygiene needs. Must be physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Must be able to move between indoor and outdoor environments to supervise students and direct students to safety in emergency situations.
