Yuma Valley Contractors, Inc. is the general commercial construction division of Jacobson Companies, Inc. We are seeking an experienced CDL-A Truck Driver/Underground Utility Laborer to join our team in Yuma, AZ. This position is a combination of driver and underground utility work duties.
For the CDL-A Truck Driver part of this position, employee is responsible for safely hauling equipment, materials, and debris to and from various job sites while supporting field crews as needed. This position requires a safety-focused driver who can operate heavy trucks and trailers in active utility construction environments.
For the underground utility laborer part of this position the employee is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground piping systems that deliver essential services such as water, sewage, stormwater, and gas to residential, commercial, and industrial areas. This role is critical to infrastructure integrity, ensuring that utility systems operate safely and efficiently. Work often takes place in trenches or confined spaces, requiring both manual labor and technical knowledge. Underground utility laborers must follow strict safety protocols, comply with local codes, and coordinate with other trades to complete projects on time
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operate trucks and trailers with safety as the top priority for employees, the public, and surrounding property
- Haul equipment, materials, and debris to various job sites
- Load and unload equipment and materials as needed
- Reverse, position, and maneuver heavy trucks and trailers safely and efficiently
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Communicate truck, trailer, and equipment maintenance needs to mechanics
- Assist Foremen and field crews as needed
- Work weekends and overtime as required
- Follow all company, DOT, and job site safety requirements
- Excavate trenches according to engineering specifications and blueprints
- Lay and join pipe segments using appropriate materials (e.g., PVC, concrete, steel)
- Measure, cut, and align pipes to ensure proper fit and slope for drainage
- Test installed systems for leaks and proper function
- Backfill trenches and restore the site to its original condition
- Requirements:
- Active CDL-A license with air brake endorsement and no restrictions
- Current DOT medical certification
- Ability to safely operate large heavy trucks and trailers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in outdoor utility construction environments
- Must be able to maneuver equipment without frequently striking curbs, poles, stationary objects, or surrounding property
- Candidates are subject to DOT pre-placement drug screening, DOT Clearinghouse query, MVR review, and criminal background check
- Knowledge of pipe materials, fitting and local building codes
- Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish
