Job Description
The Immersive Learning Simulationist plays a key role in the development, implementation, and support of immersive, evidence-based educational experiences for students, faculty, and community partners. Working in close collaboration with the Director of Innovation and Immersive Learning and Department Chair of Immersive Learning, this position ensures the effective daily operation of the Jacksonville University Keigwin School of Nursing (KSON) Immersive Learning Lab, supporting both nursing and interdisciplinary healthcare learners.
The Simulationist is responsible for facilitating engaging, experiential, and critical thinking-based learning activities that reflect current best practices in healthcare education. In addition to maintaining the operation of immersive learning technology, this role actively contributes to program development, evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing faculty and community partner collaboration.

Duties/Responsibilities
Collaboration & Program Development
- Collaborate with the Director of Innovation and Immersive Learning and Department Chair of Immersive Learning to implement current best-practice, evidence-based healthcare learning experiences in accordance with International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards.
- Partner with faculty, simulationists, and community partners to design, develop, implement, and evaluate new courses, immersive simulation scenarios, simulation tools, and educational initiatives to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for students within the immersive learning lab setting.
- Participate in immersive simulation meetings, KSON organizational committees, and regularly scheduled Jacksonville University and Keigwin School of Nursing meetings and activities.
Immersive Learning Lab Operations
- Develop, implement, and facilitate engaging learning activities for KSON students within the immersive learning lab.
- Establish and maintain procedures for the use, operation, and security of immersive learning equipment, supplies, materials, and resources.
- Oversee and coordinate with department IT specialists to maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to the operation and maintenance of immersive simulation and immersive learning equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of all immersive learning activities in an electronic database format.
Program Evaluation & Quality Improvement
- Collect immersive lab survey responses for assigned courses to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation on student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making.
- Share findings with the Director of Innovation and Immersive Learning and Department Chair of Immersive Learning.
Professional Development & Innovation
- Remain current with emerging developments in immersive learning technology, simulation operations, and healthcare education theory.
- Participate in professional development activities, conferences, webinars, and professional meetings to enhance expertise and maintain relevant knowledge.
- Develop and propose new methods to enhance immersive learning experiences for students.
Grants, Contracts & Other Duties
- Participate in grants and contractual activities as designated by the Director of Innovation and Immersive Learning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:
- Primarily indoors except when traveling between campus buildings or being off campus.
- Some off-campus travel may be required.
- Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion.
- Flexibility of schedule to workdays, evenings or weekends as directed by the Director of Innovation and Immersive Learning and Department Chair of Immersive Learning.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience:
- Minimum Education Requirement:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Clinical Expertise:
- Med Surg, Emergency, Critical care experience preferred
- Broad clinical nursing experience preferred.
- 5 years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- Simulation experience preferred.
- Unencumbered current Florida nursing license or is eligible to obtain a nursing license in the state of Florida.
- Current BLS
Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
- Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens. Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
- No limitations on physical lifting ability of simulation manikins and equipment up to 80 lbs. with assistance
- No Latex Allergy.
