Under the supervision of the Lead Journeyman, Maintenance Trainer and/or Supervisor the interns will perform the following duties.
Essential Functions
- Removes, repairs, and/or replaces units on Authority’s vehicles in the shop.
- Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces all types of components/units as required on transit vehicles and automotive equipment
- Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical units.
- Troubleshoots, with or without test equipment, various problems encountered with engines and other units affecting vehicle operation.
- Performs battery maintenance checks
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and minor repairs on vehicles.
- Communicate with everyone in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions. Conforms to all safety rules and wears/uses all appropriate safety equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Responsible for completing all mandatory training classes Responsible for reviewing and complying with all JTA policies, procedures and directives.
- Must be actively enrolled in an accredited automotive technology program.
- Must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA or equivalent) and maintain enrollment throughout the internship period.
- Must be available to work up to 20 hours per week during the internship period.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Internship may last up to 10 months and cannot be renewed or extended beyond this timeframe.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
- If the internship includes test-driving or moving vehicles, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
- Must undergo and pass applicable pre-employment screenings including drug and background check and referred by the automotive professors or department head at FSCJ.
