Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited educational program.
- Active Maryland PTA license required to start the assignment.
- BLS certification from AHA or ARC preferred. Client may require BLS; acquire prior to start if requested.
- Minimum experience: Client requires no new graduates; prior outpatient PTA experience preferred. 32-36 hours per week experience or comparable clinical hours recommended.
- Experience providing therapeutic interventions including posture training, strengthening, endurance/cardiac training, balance, coordination, joint mobility, pain relief, and functional skills training in an outpatient setting.
- Experience training patients in use of assistive devices and locomotion (canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs) and demonstrating proper guarding techniques.
- Familiarity with common PT modalities used in outpatient clinics such as hot/cold packs, ultrasound, TENS, paraffin, fluidotherapy, and therapeutic pool preferred.
- Ability to document patient progress, provide patient/family education, and collaborate in team conferences.
- Compliance with clinic policies, infection control, safe patient handling, and material handling required.
Assignment Details
- Facility Type: Outpatient clinic.
- Duration: 13 week assignment.
- Schedule: 5x8 (five days per week, eight-hour shifts).
- Hours per week: 32-36 hours per week as indicated by client preference.

- Floating: May be required to split coverage between two clinic locations as directed by client.

Standard Job Description
Implements treatment goals, plans, and programs as established by the Physical Therapist. Assists the Physical Therapist in carrying out therapeutic interventions designed to meet patients’ long-term goals, including posture training, strengthening exercises, endurance/cardiac training, balance and coordination exercises, joint mobility, pain relief, and functional skills training. Trains patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, or assistive devices and demonstrates proper guarding techniques. Orders and instructs patients in prescribed equipment use. Demonstrates the use of modalities commonly used in outpatient clinics. Monitors patient response and intervenes as necessary. Uses equipment safely and reports malfunctioning or missing equipment. Documents patient progress and provides patient and family education. Establishes professional and ethical working relationships with patients and staff. Consults with other disciplines regarding therapy administered and projected treatment goals. Participates in team conferences and quality improvement projects. Complies with clinic policies, infection control, and safety guidelines. Displays a customer service attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
