Special Education Teacher

Summary
The Resource Room at JPS Sharp Park Academy is designed to provide specialized support to students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position involves working closely with students, teachers, and parents to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and be committed to fostering student growth and success.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students requiring additional support.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in the Resource Room, focusing on academic skills, social skills, and emotional well-being.
• Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to meet individual needs.
• Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction to reinforce classroom learning and promote skill development.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievements and challenges.
• Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral intervention plans as needed.
• Create a welcoming and organized Resource Room environment that promotes learning and engagement.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
• Collaborate with other support staff, such as counselors and therapists, to provide comprehensive support to students.
• Act as a liaison between parents, teachers, and administration to ensure effective communication and support for students.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid teaching certification in Special Education or related area.
• Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs.
• Strong understanding of instructional strategies and interventions for students with disabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.
• Familiarity with educational technology and resources to support diverse learners.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with special education trends and regulations.
