Position: Instructional Interventionist (K-5)
Employment Status: Full-time
Reports to: Building Principal/Director of Special Programs
FLSA Status: Exempt
Description: Provide high-quality, specially designed instruction and services for K-5 students, including special education and at-risk pupils.
NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.
Essential Functions:
• Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
• Has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
• Ensure the safety of students
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. ?
Effectively manage classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment in a fair and just manner.
• Support students in the curriculum as well as goals and objectives set forth by the IEP team.
• Ensure IEP compliance, including accommodations and modifications.
• Be a student-focused problem solver who creates a collaborative culture for staff in supporting students with unique needs.
• Assist with interventions (Tier 1,2,3) in small groups in both a pull-out and/or a whole group setting (with students served with an IEP or general education students).
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required, including progress on IEP goals as well as intervention tracking of progress.
• Work with special programs staff (including related service providers) and general education teachers, ensuring compliance and progress (in curriculum as well as IEP goals).
• Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques, media, and sound instructional practices.
• Prepare clear and timely lesson plans (including plans for substitutes) that align with state standards and the Board-approved scope and sequence.
• Regularly assess student accomplishments, monitor progress, and provide accurate, complete, and timely data for progress reports or records.
• Follow and provide input for the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Ensure IEP goals are met.
• Adhere to federal and state laws regarding special education (IDEA).
• Collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents; attend parent/teacher conferences and multidisciplinary teams such as IAT or IEP meetings.
• Consult with colleagues concerning modifications, adaptations, accommodations, or alternate assignments in a general education classroom for students with unique needs.
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, including education, medical, testing, and family history.
• Observe the ethics of the teaching profession
• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents, and the general public using tact and diplomacy.
• Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
• Assist in the selection and inventory of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials.
• Supervise student teachers and act as a mentor for first-year teachers as agreed upon.
• Perform assigned hall/bus duty, participate in committees or co-curricular activities.
• Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely manner.
• Attend meetings and in-services as required.
• Attend educational field trips.
• Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
• Discipline students when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Programs Director, Principal, Superintendent, or designee.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university (accredited institution).
• Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license.
• Intervention Specialist OR General Education Certification
• Meet the requirements of a "Highly Qualified" Teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act.
• Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of academic area, teaching methodology, child development, and age or developmentally appropriate tasks.
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
• Effective active listening skills.

• Organizational and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer/word processing skills, and the ability to operate school equipment.
• Knowledge of IDEA, Title I rules, due process, and laws governing special education.
• Training in varied instructional design
• Background/knowledge base in methodology and supervised practice.
• Ability to assess needs and create goals that provide for those needs.
