Summary
- The Accessibility and Civil Rights Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the organization's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (Section 1557), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (Title VI), and other federal, state, and local regulations related to accessibility and non-discrimination.
- This role focuses on promoting and ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and activities for patients of all abilities and backgrounds.
- The Coordinator will monitor, assess, and advise on policies and practices to ensure compliance and improve accessibility, serving as an expert resource for staff, leadership, and the patient community.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular assessments of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with the ADA, Section 1557, Section 504, Title VI, and related federal, state, or local regulations.
- Receive, review, and process grievances related to the ADA, Section 1557, Section 504, Title VI, and related federal, state, or local regulations.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams (e.g., Facilities, Nursing, Patient Experience) to address and remediate any identified accessibility barriers.
- Maintain and update compliance documentation, tracking improvements, and ensuring timely resolution of compliance related issues.
- Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures related to non-discrimination, accessibility, accommodations, and equity, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Lead or participate in policy committees to integrate accessibility, equity, and nondiscrimination considerations across all organizational policies.
- Design and deliver training programs and educational materials for staff, focusing on ADA, Section 1557, Section 504, and Title VI compliance, inclusive communication, and best practices in patient-centered care.
- Conduct orientations or refresher trainings to keep all departments informed of current accessibility standards and legal obligations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patient or staff concerns regarding ADA, Section 1557, Section 504, Title VI compliance related issues.
- Investigate complaints, coordinate responses, and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of incident investigations and outcomes, reporting findings to leadership.
- Collaborate with Patient Relations, Risk Management, Human Resources, Office of Compliance and Ethics, and other relevant departments to address issues and coordinate resolutions.
- Participate in the development of management responses to internal complaints, grievances, or charges filed with external agencies (e.g., EEOC, OCR, FCHR).
- Assist with the coordination and documentation of internal investigations, including complaints involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace misconduct.
- Work with confidential personnel records and privileged information in support of HR leadership's strategy and response to labor matters.
- Gather, analyze, and report on equity-related data to support HR policy development and risk mitigation planning.
- Provide insight and recommendations to HR leadership on matters that may influence collective bargaining negotiations or grievance outcomes.
- Engage with community organizations and advocacy groups to stay current on emerging best practices and to foster community partnerships that support improved accessibility and nondiscrimination.
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to leadership on trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement related to patient equity, accessibility, and nondiscrimination.
- Stay current with changes in federal, state, and local regulations regarding accessibility and nondiscrimination.
- Coordinate effective implementation of the organization's language access procedures, effective communication procedures, and reasonable modification procedures.
- Assess organizational practices, seeking opportunities to enhance inclusivity for all patients, including those with disabilities, limited English proficiency, and other special needs.
- Coordinate the organization's recordkeeping requirements in accordance with the relevant regulations. Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in related field is Required.
Credentials
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
