The EMS Instructorprovides engaging, high-quality instruction in EMS with a particular emphasis on EMT, Advanced EMT, & Paramedic education. The instructor promotes active and inclusive learning through laboratory and classroom experiences, develops curriculum aligned with established National EMS Education Standards, and participates in departmental assessment and community engagement initiatives. This role contributes to the mission of EMS programs to prepare students to be knowledgeable, competent, entry-level, pre-hospital care practitioners designed to fill positions at the level of Paramedic, Advanced EMT, and EMT.

Job Duties
- Teach EMS related courses in the classroom/online, lab, and supervise limited clinical rotations as needed. Faculty loads are normally scheduled on an average of fifteen (15) credits per semester; however this position, due to the schedule of the cohorts, will have the opportunity to teach during the summer semesters. Teaching schedules may include day and evening classes, dual enrollment classes with local high schools, and other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the program. Opportunities for summer teaching will be based on student interest and program needs.
- Provide collaborative planning, delivery and evaluation of classroom, laboratory instruction.
- Provide related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. ·
- Conduct a minimum of 10 student engagement hours-weekly to include advising and collateral duty assignments are required.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence of collaboration on departmental or interdisciplinary initiatives.

- Minimum of an associate degree, recommended Bachelor’s degree ·
- NREMT and/or Virginia EMT & Paramedic Certification ·
- AHA BLS CPR Certification
- Three (3) years of full-time experience as a NREMT-Paramedic in either a clinical or pre-hospital setting. The selected candidate must be able to pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EMS Education with the ability to teach EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic Courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EMS Education Coordinator-preferred.
- Current or recent classroom and/or online teaching experience specifically in an EMS program and/or Fire-Based Programs.
- Previous teaching experience in higher education and/or K12 instruction. ·
- Experience with the use of high fidelity patient simulation setup and scenarios. ·
- Experience with curriculum design, student learning outcomes assessment, and program improvement. · Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in curriculum development, course scheduling, enrollment management, program effectiveness and evaluation; as well as student advising. ·
- Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction, including use of Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and digital learning tools. ·
- Substantial evidence of involvement in College-related activities beyond the classroom, including holding office hours, advising, and collateral duty assignments (e.g., service on committee, leading specific initiatives, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment that supports student achievement.
- Possess ACLS, BLS, EPC, and/or PALS, AMLS Certifications (Instructor certifications preferred or must complete within one (1) year of hire).
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence of collaboration on departmental or interdisciplinary initiatives. ·
- Possess Firefighter I & II Certifications, Instructor certifications preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies with excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
- Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of students.
- Previous teaching experience in a community college setting.
