What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Technician -- A/B Level -- No Weekends position at J&S Automotive?
Experienced A/B Automotive Technician — good work, full benefits, and your life back.
Tired of being treated like just a number at a high-volume shop, with no time left for your family? J&S Automotive is the other kind of shop.
We're an honest, family-run repair shop in Springfield hiring an experienced A- or B-level technician. If you can diagnose driveability and electrical problems and do the job right the first time, we want you on our team. We run a clean, organized shop on Tekmetric with current diagnostic equipment — but we're not a car-count factory. Here, quality comes first, and a good tech is valued as a person.
Here's what makes J&S different:
- Competitive pay, flat-rate or hourly. Whether you're after the upside of flat-rate or a steady, predictable paycheck, your pay is set on your experience, your certifications, and the work you produce.
- Weekends are family time. Monday–Friday, every weekend off — not something you trade away to make a living.
- No pressure-cooker quotas. Just honest, quality work done right — you're treated like a professional, not a stopwatch.
- You're a name, not a number — an honest, respectful shop where your good work gets noticed.
The work (this is A/B-tech work, not lube-bay work):
- Diagnose and repair driveability, electrical, and computer/control-system issues
- Brakes, suspension, steering, drivetrain, cooling, and HVAC — done right and verified
- Digital vehicle inspections (DVI) with photos so customers can make informed decisions
- Missouri State Safety Inspections
- Road-test and quality-check every repair before it leaves the shop
- Keep clean notes in Tekmetric and work cleanly with the service advisor
What we're looking for:
- A-tech: advanced diagnostics — driveability, electrical, intermittent gremlins — start to finish
- B-tech: knocks out most repairs independently and is growing their diagnostics — strong B-techs ready to grow into an A-role are encouraged to apply
- Several years of hands-on repair experience (5 preferred for A-level)
- Missouri State Inspection License required — or the ability to obtain one right away
- ASE certifications strongly preferred — we reimburse and support your certs
- You own your hand tools; we supply the big diagnostic equipment and scan tools
- Valid driver's license and a clean-enough record to road-test
- Team-first attitude — you take pride in fixing it right the first time
What we offer:
- Competitive pay: $20–$45/hour based on your experience and certifications — flat-rate or hourly; A-techs at the top of the range
- Full benefits: health, supplemental, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off & paid holidays
- ASE reimbursement — we pay to help you certify and grow toward Master
- Parts at cost for your own vehicles
- Every weekend off — weekends are family time (Mon–Fri, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM)
- A quality-focused shop, not a high-volume grind — good work done right, with a real work-life balance
- Current equipment — Tekmetric, up-to-date scan tools and diagnostic gear
