Senior Asphalt Estimator

Sr Estimator – Full-time, salaried position.

CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location, and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
• Review drawings and specifications and proposed project site conditions, record findings and solicit input from field operations to include in final estimate.
• Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.
• Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.
• Participate in activities to support the company's strategic planning efforts.
• Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work, required proposal/bid deliverables, ascertain potential risks, follow-up for in-house operations plans, etc. for estimates and bids.
• Develop and maintain relationships to increase bid opportunities in the local market.
• Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of scope of job.
• Review "take-off" quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
• Generate RFIs to clarify bid documents

REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience estimating in the construction industry and/or a Construction Management/ Civil Engineering Degree.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to research information on upcoming jobs for bidding purposes
• General knowledge of asphalt and grading construction operations
• Excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset
• Effective listening skills to understand the scope and expectations of tasks to be performed
• A positive attitude when faced with challenges
• Working in an organized and proactive manner
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
• Effective and professional communication skills; verbal and written
• Detail oriented, able to multi-task and be flexible
• Valid California Driver’s License
