Area Manager – Multi-Family HVAC Install New Construction
Position Summary
The Area Manager at J.R. Hobbs plays a critical role in ensuring the technical and operational excellence ranging from 3–6 active multi-family HVAC installation in new construction projects. This position oversees all aspects of job site operations, including managing staff, resolving conflicts with other trades, and ensuring projects are delivered on budget and on schedule. The Area Manager works closely with the Regional Director, Project Manager, and Assistant Project Manager (Materials) to achieve project success. This role also involves recruiting, training, safety audits, and managing team member performance in partnership with HR, while adhering to company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the operational excellence and on-site execution of multiple multi-family HVAC construction projects.
- Supervise, hire, train, and manage job site staff, including recommending termination of personnel, when necessary, in partnership with HR.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving conflicts with other trades, ensuring smooth project workflows.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager to maintain schedules, budgets, and project scopes.
- Perform regular job site inspections to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with local codes and regulations.
- Participate in conducting take-offs of materials and ensure accurate delivery of materials and equipment with internal partners.
- Plan, assign, and monitor tasks for job site crews, maintaining high performance and adherence to schedules.
- Schedule and manage project safety and progress meetings while preparing detailed daily reports.
- Manage relationships with subcontractors, ensuring quality and compliance with project specifications.
Required Skills & Experience
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required;
- Degree in Construction Management or related, preferred
Experience:
- 5–10 years of HVAC new construction experience, specifically in multi-family housing.
- At least 5 years as a Multi-Family HVAC Installation Supervisor, demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittal data, and construction documents.
- Proficiency in Procore, BIM360, or similar project management software for viewing blueprints and tracking progress.
- Knowledge of local codes and regulations, as well as experience working with inspectors.
Certifications:
- OSHA 10 (minimum); OSHA 30 preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Additional certifications such as Lull, Scissor Lift, Fall Protection, Forklift, Scaffolding, and Lockout/Tagout training are highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach overhead, walk long distances on uneven surfaces, and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Language Skills:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency is a plus.

- Experience with the installation of 1½–5-ton HVAC units and comprehension of equipment installation and operation manuals.
- Familiarity with coordinating work across multiple trades and ensuring seamless project execution.
