Role Description The General Laborer Pipelayer is a full-time, on-site role located in Pittsburgh, PA, working on excavation and utility installation projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with trenching and excavation, preparing work areas, laying and aligning pipes, and backfilling and compacting soil according to project specifications. The role involves safely operating or supporting the operation of hand tools and light equipment, loading and unloading materials, and maintaining clean, organized job sites. The General Laborer Pipelayer follows directions from site supervisors, adheres to safety procedures and regulations, and collaborates with crew members to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule. This position may require working in varying weather conditions, performing physically demanding tasks, and complying with company safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Experience in general construction or excavation work, including trenching, site preparation, and utility installation.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor such as lifting, carrying materials, working in trenches, and standing or bending for extended periods.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools and light construction equipment, with the ability to use them safely and effectively.
- Understanding of construction site safety practices, including PPE use, hazard recognition, and adherence to company and regulatory safety standards.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions from supervisors and coordinate tasks with other crew members.
- Reliable transportation to job sites in and around Pittsburgh, PA, and willingness to work in varying weather and outdoor conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior experience in pipelaying, utilities, or site development is a plus.
