Position Summary: The Production Lead will oversee daily manufacturing operations in a high-precision aerospace and defense environment. This role is essential for managing production workflows, ensuring efficient resource utilization, and coordinating cross-departmental activities to meet deadlines while maintaining compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with strong organizational skills, experienced in handling secure, regulated manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee production management and scheduling, including developing and maintaining production timelines, prioritizing tasks, and adjusting workflows to optimize efficiency and meet project deadlines.
- Order production supplies, monitoring stock levels and placing timely requisitions to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Coordinate the movement of parts to the next department, ensuring smooth transitions and accurate tracking throughout the manufacturing process.
- Manage and coordinate shipments of orders, including preparing documentation, scheduling logistics, and liaising with shipping providers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Perform quality assurance (QA) on parts before shipment, conducting final inspections to verify compliance with specifications and ensure no details are missed.
- Maintain inventory movement by regularly reviewing stock, rotating materials, and implementing strategies to prevent bottlenecks or excess accumulation.
- Assist the procurement team with recommendations on cut sizes for materials and vendor suggestions based on production needs and quality requirements.
- Provide regular updates to Customer Support on production status, delays, or changes to keep clients informed and manage expectations effectively.
- Create packing slips and related shipping documentation, ensuring accuracy in labeling, quantities, and compliance with aerospace and defense export regulations.
- Collaborate with the planning department to adjust operations routing, analyzing processes for improvements and implementing changes to enhance productivity.
- Lead and supervise a team of production staff, providing training, performance feedback, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Enforce adherence to quality standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and ITAR, including handling of classified materials and hazardous substances.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) like on-time delivery, inventory turnover, and defect rates, reporting insights to management for strategic decision-making.
- Respond to production issues, troubleshoot equipment, and coordinate maintenance to minimize downtime.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role, preferably in aerospace, defense, or a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, inventory management, and supply chain processes in a high-stakes environment.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense standards, including MIL-STD specifications, FAA regulations, and export controls.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (Secret level or higher preferred).
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), inventory management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
- Physical ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts, overtime, or weekends as needed.
- Must be US citizen or Permanent Resident as per ITAR regulations.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or supply chain management.
- Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, such as CNC machining or composite materials.
- Knowledge of logistics software and vendor management best practices.
- Data-driven approach to process optimization and inventory control.
