Position Description:

The Facilities Technician is responsible for supporting the overall maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of buildings, grounds, equipment, and related systems. This role provides hands‑on assistance across a wide range of facility tasks including general maintenance, preventive maintenance, light construction, furniture moves, interior repairs, groundskeeping, and customer service support. The Technician works closely with area owners, stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant with company standards and applicable regulations. This role will primarily support the Western Massachusetts region. While most assignments will be concentrated in this area, the position is not limited to a single territory and may require travel to other regions as business needs arise.

Specific Duties:

  • Coordinate with area owners/stakeholders as required by the work scope.
  • Assist with a variety of maintenance tasks, including interior lighting, furniture and window treatment repair, installation and replacement, door hardware/lock installation, and general building repairs.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Manage and document all work in the computerized maintenance work order system and handheld technologies.
  • Provide customer service to administrative offices, dining/café areas, and grounds, responding to service requests as assigned.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions and required preventive maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance duties such as furniture moves, office painting/patching, cleaning, light construction, and exterior cleanup.
  • Operate site equipment and utilize hand and power tools as needed.
  • Interface with external vendors/suppliers for building and equipment repairs, ensuring alignment with Zampell processes and procedures.
  • Support audio-visual (AV) needs, including meeting setup and assisting with AV project installations.
  • Plan daily tasks, prioritize work, and schedule maintenance activities.
  • Create and maintain electronic and paper files for all preventive and corrective maintenance performed.
  • Provide support to vendors and contractors during onsite work.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism with customers, vendors, and company personnel; adhere strictly to confidentiality requirements.
  • Use technology such as smartphones, tablets, computers, web-based applications, and building automation systems.
  • Receive work assignments from the Operations Team or Customer Service Representative.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), building codes, and company policies.
  • Promptly report on‑the‑job accidents and complete required accident reports.
  • Make decisions using approved methods aligned with company goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff, both in person and over the phone or e-mail.
  • Must be flexible, able to travel, and have ability to occasionally work extended hours (evenings/weekends) if requested.
  • Must have ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to operate a pickup truck.
  • Must be able to lift minimum 10lbs.
  • Must be able to plow and shovel snow.
  • Must possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and ground maintenance.
  • Understanding OSHA regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Must be able to operate power tools and power landscape equipment such as power trimmer, shrub trimmer, and others as needed.

Qualifications/Certifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and familiarity with online scheduling and timekeeping software programs preferred.
