Apprentice Exterior Repair Technician
Position Overview
Wages: $18.00 to $22.00 an hour
At JB West we are seeking a motivated, hard-working Apprentice Exterior Repair Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will participate in a structured “earn-while-you-learn” training program, working directly alongside senior technicians. You will gain hands-on experience and master the four pillars of residential and commercial building envelopes: roofing, siding, decking, and window/door installations.
This position requires someone who thrives in an outdoor environment, takes pride in precise craftsmanship, and is committed to learning a lifetime trade.
Key Responsibilities
As an apprentice, your duties will expand in complexity as you progress through your field training modules:
- Roofing Systems: Assist with the tear-off of old roofing materials; inspect wood decking for dry rot: install underlayment, ice and water shields, asphalt shingles, metal panels, flashing, and seamless gutter networks.
- Siding & Trim: Prepare exterior walls with structural house wrap: calculate layout lines: precisely cut and install vinyl, fiber-cement (James Hardie), and wood siding; install matching soffit, facia, and custom aluminum trim coil.
- Decking & Framing: Learn to read basic blueprints and framing layouts: assist with digging footings, setting structural posts, framing floor joists, ledger board flashing and installing wood or composite decking and railing systems.
- Windows & Doors: Prepare rough openings: ensure units are perfectly level, square, and plumb: master advanced window pan flashing techniques to guarantee absolute weather proofing: apply insulation foam and exterior caulking.
- Jobsite Safety & Setup: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace: properly erect scaffolding, ladders, and safety fall-restraint harnesses: manage tool inventory and load/unload material deliveries.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
