Skills needed to be a Direct Support Professional include:
- Must Be willing to do personal cares
- Weekend & Holiday shifts required
- Great communication with team and clients
- Positive attitude
- Compassionate and caring
- Keep strong personal and professional boundaries with the clients
- Participate in house and community activities with their coworkers and clients
- Assist with extra tasks around the house, such as cooking and cleaning
- Thoroughly understand clients’ programs and personalities
- Excellent support and verbal redirection skills with clients
- Provide feedback and ideas to help improve the house and the lives of the clients
- Take it upon themselves to plan outings with the clients
